Lashers are those flowers with the vine appendages. I'm guessing it'll be a fire-red lasher, or a burning lasher.

As of 4.2, eating this will not enable you to cast fireball.

Not only does it shoot fireballs, but it will cast a heal on you during combat, 500-550 a pop. Not huge, but a nice bonus!

It does not heal you, the quest version of this little guy does, but not the pet.

So, I discovered that if you get the quest that gives the quest version of this guy but don't complete it, when you come back the next day and there is a different quest that gives it, you can wind up with multiple quest versions of this guy following you at the same time. Of course this meant I had to summon my non-combat pet version, feed it a pet biscuit to make it bigger, and walk around Malfurion's Breech with 3 Crimson Lashers following me. I'm tempted not to do either of the quests today and see if I can make it 4 tomorrow. (Are there more than two quests that give the one that heals you?)

As a very avid pet collector, I have to say the price on this is pretty hard to swallow. Even with the flame spitting, imo it's not really aesthetically epic-looking. I could see it being in the hundreds of gold, but over 1k? For that price you have to consider the other (more useful) things you could buy.

Keep an eye out at the Auction House for people selling off their multiples of this companion. I actually never spent time in Molten Front (getting this pet seemed like a sink across the board) so when I saw one on AH for 1000 gold it was a no-brainer.
