The name seemed familiar, then I remembered seeing this article on WoW Insider over a year ago. It seems this pet has been sitting around unused for quite a while, as it was first datamined in the 3.3.3 PTR.

The model he is referring too is Spirit of Competition, however the skin is obviously different. This was only obtainable during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

As of the PTR on this date, the letter you recieve when you reach 150 pets is from Breanni, and says:

"Hello!

Wow, you're becoming quite the collector of cute critters, aren't you?

I thought I'd write a small note and send a small gift to encourage your efforts. Keep it up!

--Breanni"

(Note this is the same letter that you get with the 125 pet reward, the Brilliant Kaliri, so it's likely both are place holders.)

The pet modeled on the Spirit of Competition pet from the Summer of Competition event (a short term, apparently one-time event held during the real-life Beijing Olympic games in 2008). The pet's motif is that of the Celestials, much like raid boss Agalon and the Blizzard Store mount, the Celestial Steed.

The pet is very active - it wiggles behind you, and zips around in triangular shapes. It has an on-click growl similar to a hunter's pet being fed. This might be a place holder.

Overall a very fitting reward for such a hard achievement.

It's easily one of the best pets I've seen in game and a fantastic reward for an achievement that a lot of us spent a lot of time and money to attain. This pet attracts a lot of attention. He's extremely active, with about a 2 second timer before he repeats his idle animation of jumping in a large triangle with streams of light, similar to those that follow Thunderfury, trailing behind him. He's large too - just a little shorter than my human female. As of the current PTR, however, he despawns completely when you mount up. Hopefully this will change to him flying with you since he is a dragon, afterall.

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this but when the dragon begins to dart about, he's actually flying in a 5 pointed star pattern.

Edit: and as pointed out Grizzlynick mentioned it first. I misread it and thought he was talking about the particles left behind by the dragon. Shows what I get for skimming lol.

OMG! I gotta have this guy! I have the Celestial Steed, and my Guild name is "Celestial Templars" (but in Latin)! I gotta get one of these! He looks great! Especially with a pet biscuit! how on earth am I going to collect 150 friggin' pets? I don't have but like three!

This was summary of what is possible without RL-Money previous to MoP. Now, it is pretty useless. But heck, I won't just delete it :)

It is very well possible to get that Achievement without investing a cent, but it's not going to be easy.
Technically, you can obtain a maximum of 171 pets purely by ingame means (172 including the core hound which I highly recommend ;) ).

But there's a but. A few of them aren't obtaineable anymore: Baby Blizzard Bear, Unhatched Mr. Chilly, Onyxian Whelpling, Gold Medallion, Vampiric Batling
Not included are all sorts of regional pets (correct me if I'm wrong please ^^), they aren't included in my assumed maximum either.

So if you start collecting today, without spending any money, that leaves you with a maximum of 166 (167 if you add the core hound, which I... well you know it ^^). But there's another but... You may need to collect children's week pets, which takes up to 4 years if you need all of them. You'll most likely need some, if not all, of the other seasonal world event pets as well, which takes up to one year. So be prepared for a long, long journey. Arriving to the point when of all pets, only those are missing, takes tons of dedication and luck anyways. A lot of new pets came with the DMF in 4.3, and another two lanterns were introduced with the Lunar festival.

So now that I have this companion, I have no desire summon another one again. I felt cheated for getting the fawn at 75 companions, and nothing for the longest time for 100 and 125 companions. Thank you Blizzard, you have now redeemed yourself with this companion. Best companion in the game so far.

Anyone else find themselves wishing they made this a BoA item? You work hard enough to get it, you should be able to show it off on all toons.

It's idle animation is to dart around the air, making a pretty blue trail behind it. It seems to have 2 or 3 different kinds of flips that it does and it does them quite often. :)

A really spectacular pet, a very nice surprise to pull out of your mailbox!

A few tips to expedite the painful, last 10 or so pets that I bet most people will struggle on. Will require a little cash, so again, tips on expediting, albeit cheaply! Goal was to avoid the pricier Blizz store (8 pets).

I'm not super pet savvy and had a few easy pets from collectors editions and old events/promos. This is some of what I learned researching the easier pets to acquire, time wise.

-- These days, Landro's Lichling, Landro's Lil' XT and Nightsaber Cub can be had for $3-4 each on eBay (TCG rewards). If you have ~$12 lying around for 3 pets, you're that much closer with 3 Starbucks drinks worth of coinage.

-- Stuck at 149 pets? Somewhat cheesy, but works. Add the authenticator to your account, learn the CoreHound, check mail - admire Celestial Dragon, remove authenticator from your account. Admire Celestial Dragon moar.

-- Don't forget about Pebble Rock Lover and the other Jouster you can now get in Hyjal The 'Unbeatable?' Pterodactyl: BEATEN. . Guaranteed pets you may already be near obtaining.

-- Archaeology pets - Voodoo Figurine, Fossilized Hatchling, Clockwork Gnome. They are actually pretty easy to get if you've already sunk in the time to level Arc. They tend to appear relatively 'soon' during Arc solves.

-- Horde/Alliance Balloon and Withers. Freebie pets if you know they exist. Same goes for the Jubling (dependant on the Darkmoon Faire).

I simply adore this pet. I just wanted to make a quick note about something.

I posted a screenshot of it yesterday, stating that it will freeze in it's "flying position" when a Pet Biscuit is used on it.

Turns out, I was wrong with that one. It actually freezes that way when on a mount, ground or flying, whether it's normal-sized, under the conditions of the Pet Biscuit, or you have the Noggenfogger Elixir effect on you.

I just wanted to clear things up.

As of the current (15-Apr-2012) Mists of Pandaria Beta Build (15589) The following Pet Achievements have been remove from the General Tab:

Shop Smart, Shop Pet...Smart which awards Stinker (Reeking Pet Carrier)
Lil' Game Hunter which awards Little Fawn (Little Fawn's Salt Lick)
Petting Zoo which awards Nuts (Nuts' Acorn)
Menagerie which awards Brilliant Kaliri (Brilliant Kaliri)
Littlest Pet Shop which awards Celestial Dragon (Celestial Dragon)

That leaves the future of obtaining these pets associated with the achievements uncertain. There is a section in the achievement screen for "Pet Battles" but it's too soon to tell exactly what will happen. If you are close to finishing one of the achievements and getting one of the 5 pets, may be worth trying to finish just in case!

As of patch 5.0.4, the Celestial Dragon shows up automatically in your pet journal upon getting the achievement. No letter from Breanni, no dragon in the mail, just check your pet journal before submitting that ticket. =)

I just got this achievement yesterday, September 13, 2012, Patch 5.0.5, and while I instantly got the achievement, I did not get the pet. I checked my mail; I checked my pet tab, the pet was still grayed-out; I re-logged; /reload ui; open-closed the pet journal; tried different toons; still nothing.

I waited a few hours and tried those things again. Still nothing. So I opened a ticket.

Today, about 15 hours after I got the achievement, I logged in again, my ticket was still open, but now the pet is in my pet journal. (No mail though).

So, it seems to take a while for this to show up in your journal. Don't be trigger happy with the ticket creation like I was.

This pet is my main battle pet after considering 150+ unique pet. My choice was based on the stats (wasn't paying too much attention to the abilities due to not having any idea of the new battle pet system when it release).

Normal pet stats at level 1,

Power and Speed are usually 10-12 (catch pre mop - aka no quality stated), while HP is usually between 148-161.

(Extreme exception : Ragnaros with 16 power and 8 speed with 161 hp)

This pet has 162 hp, 13 of power and speed.

That's not only it, i like the balanced combination of spells. for level 1-10, it has a damage ability - unconditional healing (3 round cd) and a weather buff that increase both damage and healing.

Of course, unless something is superior against dragonkin or higher level than him, or else this pet has performed pretty well along with my Deathy and lil' XT pre lvl 16 (i'm lvl 16 at the moment).

Just my 2 cents, sharing my experience with this pet.

This companion is your 151st and MoP now lets you name them, so here's what I did.

Bacardi is on Blizzard's ban of unacceptable names, so I substituted the "i" with an "l". To the untrained eye it passes.

Based on my luck using this dragon in pet battles, I do not recommend using it for yourself. More than half of it's moves miss or are dodged. I only leveled this thing to 25 for All Pets Allowed.

I use this as one of my main level 25 battle pets, my other 2 being Amber Moth and Ash Viper. I seem to be getting along just fine with this set up and have downed all of the 'epic' battle pets with these 3.

For some reason, this pet has been given the ability of Flamethrower (Elemental) instead of Breath (Dragonkin) in 5.3, which really sucks if you're used to farm with this awesome guy all the time, a good portion of the pets you encounter in Pandaria are critters and your "spam" move hits them for less now. I know that the alternative move in slot 1 is Roar (Beast) which indeed hits more to the Critters, but it is a lower dps spell that also buffs the damage and not that effective an ability to spam with.

This is quite odd that both third-line abilities change weather to Moonlight. It forces player to use the Ancient Blessing, what fits quite nice.
If you want to boost your Arcane Eye, it would be better if you choice another pet.

Wow, this is another way that WOW has surprised me... I was just looking on Wowhead to see where I was and what other pets were within reasonably easy attainment. I'm not a crazy collector or battler, in fact that is the only weekly bonus event I have yet to finish. But lo and behold... I already have the Brilliant Kaliri and the Celestial Dragon , so I guess I will now start looking at the safari pets to get those achievements and start rounding out the numbers even more, because I'm sure there are more achievements coming with legion that involve collecting "x" number of pets! And maybe even another free one that you never ever realize is there! lol...
