This is the new reputation badge reward for normal daily dungeon quest (Timear Foresees).

Looks like Blizzard is making raising reputation with Sons of Hodir easier every patch.

And what's wrong with that? Hodir is a pain in the **** to grind rep for. Why should the game only be for nerds that play 24/7?

Personally, I think getting rep for Hodir through a dungeon daily is great. It's still only 500 rep a day, but it means people can do it whilst gearing rather than having to choose one or the other.

This is great, especially if the normal dungeon daily is HoL because not only can you choose this as your quest reward, but you will also get some relics of ulduar in the process as well as your chance at gear.

Also i think that they put this at 500rep instead of 250 because you can wear a tabard for the other 4 factions while you do the normal daily and gain more rep so the 500 is most likely compensation for that.

Having grind'd Sons of Hodir on 4 80s already mostly through dailies, this is a godsend. I will still do the dailies when I'm bored but this is definitely icing on the cake.

Lets count here, pre patch.

You could do 3 dailies with Sons of Hodir, meaning you got 750 rep in total. Not counting the relics, that would take you 52 days to get to exalted with them, that is from start of friendly to exalted (6000 + 12000 + 21000).

With this new reputation you get 1250 rep per day, not given that you deliver any relics. It would then take you around 32 days to get to exalted, 20 days saved. Now given that you're getting some relics as well which give 250 rep per 10 relics delivered it has now become a task well inside my range of doing.

I think it's wonderful that they make the game less about grinding and more about exploring the different aspects of the game. The main problem if the old world of warcraft was that you spent several days inside a secluded area doing one thing only just to get to do a raid. There's a reason they removed that. And I'm glad about it, the game is more fun now.

But of course, this has gone on the cost of the /flex status people got about having gear only they had the patience to nerd themselves to get so it might be the source of the main complains this days.

Check your math.

At Neutral/Friendly
Blowing Hodir's Horn - 250 rep
Hot and Cold - 250 rep
Polishing the Helm - 250 rep

At Honored
Thrusting Hodir's Spear - 500 rep
Spy Hunter - 350 rep

At Revered
Feeding Arngrim - 350 rep

By the time you finish the chain/dungeon quest and turn in your relics/chips you should be nearly honored; by the second or third day at the latest.

Therefore, starting at honored:
1600 rep per day from honored until revered. 7.5 days.
1950 rep per day from revered until exalted. 11.8 days.

20 days tops.

This is not to mention the 1-3 chip (if you know where to look) and 1-2 relic turnins you'll get per day.

Compared with, say, Exalted Argent Champion of the Alliance, this is a cakewalk.

It takes a total of 27 days (without frost chips or relics) to go from Friendly to Exalted.

Friendly to Honored - 8 days - 6,000
Honored to Revered - 8 days - 12,000
Revered to Exalted - 11 days - 21,000

Don't be an idiot like me and use one of these before making contact with them and doing the initial quest to get friendly. It will simply take you from 0/36000 hated to 500/36000 hated. What a waste.

Actually, I don't think it matters. The quests that get you to neutral, Mending Fences and A Spark of Hope, give a fixed amount of Sons of Hodir reputation (22,000 each). Normally, this 44,000 reputation takes you from 0/36000 hated to 2000/3000 neutral. But if you first turn in a commendation badge and start at 500/36000 hated, you will end up at 2500/3000 neutral after Mending Fences and A Spark of Hope, just the same as if you had waited to turn in your badge until after becoming neutral with Sons of Hodir.

In summary, I don't think it is a waste to turn in Sons of Hodir commendation badges before meeting them, because the reputation you gain by doing so will stay with you after you complete the initial faction quests.

i for one, agree to what everyone else says. its bad enough having to grind forever on heroics to get the gear you need for the serious ones like ulduar and the new 10-25 man ToC. the last thing i need is to have to waist time grinding on a rep just to get a good enchantment for my shoulders.
i think its nice they are trying to remove the grind on everything. so what if you get more noobs in heroics. so what if you cant */flex* your nerdism as much on how much you grinded more than others. if it takes literaly half your day doing the same thing to get anything done, then how does that make the game fun? that is what a game is about after all. having fun.

For those that aren't sure what to do with these pre-hodir "attunement":

You can use these badges before doing the questline with Sons of Hodir without losing the acquired reputation. You will build up rep starting at maximum hated for the time being, but when you finish the Hodir questline, a sum of 44000 rep will be added, to your existing reputation. You will not get reset at 0 rep neutral, in case you might think that.

Why should the game only be for nerds that play 24/7?

Oh, but it's not. Currently, there are (as far as I'm aware) no rewards for serious rep-farmers. Back in TBC there were the Sha'tari Skyguard and Netherwing, even Kurenai that required a certain bit of farming. You knew when you saw a player on the Drake that this was a dedicated player. I've got the Netherwing drake on two character ATM, and working on the third. There are no mounts in Wrath of the Lich King that require any kind of rep grind, perhaps apart from the Hodir mammoths. But then again, the hard bit about the Hodir ones isn't the grind, it's the money.

I wouldn't define myself as an elitist, because I don't have neither the skill nor the gear for clearing Icecrown in a week after 3.3 hits. But I do have the time to play a lot, and I don't want to spend that time running around doing useless achievements, I'd really like to have a new, hard reputation grind.

@DoctorHat: I prefer grinds that reward mounts, as the first thing you notice about a player isn't his title, his gear, his minipet. No, it's his mount, and that was what my post was about.

Woops, i just used near 40 of these before i noticed it was destroying my reputation, make sure you have done the quest chain before you use them, or they will decrease your rep by increasing how much they hate you.
Submitted a ticket to see if i can get my reputation reverted, I don't think it should work like this.

Nah mate, you're confused. I'll try a fancy diagram just because I'm bored:

Hated (0/36k) ---------------- neutral ---------------Exalted (21k/21k)
gain rep > gain rep > gain rep > gain rep > gain rep > gain rep

When you start out at hated 0/36k, you have to 'gain hated' until you reach max 35999/36k. Then you 'ding Hostile' and get to start on gaining Hostile rep until Unfriendly, etc.

Once you reach neutral, you continue to gain reputation - it always goes up up up.

Heres my problem I did k3 quests ans quests for the people you have to get disguise for. When u go into hodir to get the frozen guys unstuck, and even w/ using badges i cant get their listing to stop hating me. I knock it down, then it goes back up.

How do I fix this?

Warning: Check the price of Relic of Ulduar on your server before you buy these with Emblems of Triumph.

Each Emblem of Triumph is worth ~15 gold, as 10 of them are enough for an Ametrine or Dreadstone, which usually sells for about 150 gold.

The Relics of Ulduar now give 650 REP for 10 of them, and can sometimes be bought for 1 gold each. Even if you find them for 1.5g each, if you're lucky you can spend 15g for 600 Rep, versus 15g for 520.

Do some quick research on the price of both Ametrine/Dreadstone and Relics.

With the new Boost in Quest reputation from Mending Fences & A Spark of Hope you'll be brought to 6200 / 12000 Honored. Leaving you with 26,800 Reputation until Exalted.

You'll need 52 Badges, to get to Exalted (without quests, or relics).
Humans will only need 37 Badges to get Exalted

This gives reputation equivalent to 8xRelic of Ulduar, so check the AH for relic prices before spending any emblems. It's quite likely that you'll get more reputation by spending your badges on something to sell, then using the money to buy relics. Note that you need ten relics to turn them in (for 650 rep gain).

As far as I know, this is the only commendation badge for a faction without a tabard. So, if you're done with triumph emblems you can buy enough of these with your remaining triumphs or triumphs you get from weeklies and daily randoms to easily boost your Sons of Hodir reputation, if you never levelled it beforehand.

Actually I think the Sons of Hodir is the funnest rep grind Blizzard has ever developed. All the quests are fun, and you get to farm a lot of useful mats along the way.

Okay i use the badges and got the rep with hodir and im still not able to get the flight path or anything and then also i tryed to finish the quest line and theyre were only 2 quests left and they were aberrations and the other one was a daily and when i finished them no other quests apeared and Im really confused what to do can somone help?

So I wanted the helm enchant and turned in a few Badges to increase rep only to find I become hated by the sons.. then did the quest chain and now when I go to the Sons of Hodir I turn into a brunnhildir woman and cant see the quartermaster or the daily quests despite being honoured?
By the way dont turn in badges before you do the quest chain as it a long way from hated to neutral !

These currently cost 16 Justice Points and give 520 reputation as of Cataclysm, for reference, you get 12 justice points for each normal lich king dungeon (24 for heroic). Of course, once you hit cata you get 140 jp per random dungeon... making these rep grinds painstakingly easy :D.

Be Warned:

If you skip the quest chain and simply purchase these tokens with JP all the way to exalted, you will be exalted but you will not be able to see the quartermaster or obtain dailies.

I just bought like 170 of these to go from hated to exalted. Now I'm doing the quest chain :(

For the chain can ya just skip daily quests? >hate daily runs< I got 3 85 toons to burn the quest line enough for Qmstr then its badging wich to get enough JP for badges should take a MAXIMUM of 1 day plenty of easy justice Did Wyrmrest in 7 hours got drake wich got me my albino now im just lookin for Ground mounts super fun launching rogues in bgs from behind an elephant

In 6.0 with the removal of all Valor and Justice Points badges increasing any Northrend reputation are removed, too. You can still purchase the tabards and grind instances or do dailies for them.
Normal Lich King dungeons no longer seem to give any reputation with a tabard on, Heroic runs grant 19-20/mob, 325/boss.

Now in WoD for the timewalking events, you can buy this Commendation rep thingy from the vendor of the WotLK timewalking. Cost 50 Justice Points and gives 500 or 550 depending on your race's passives. I bought 40 of them (2k Justice Points) and I reached friendly, then I spend about an hour questing, and when I completed the last chain quest I got all the rep that I needed for max in Exalted. Nice and easy.
The 2 mounts that you can buy from the quartermaster cost 8.000g and 800g and gives an achievement for each of them.
