Coming from someone who does not like to farm (even dailies are like on that line) or deal with finding eggs all day for the Netherwing faction, this is a godsend. I had always wanted a red or black dragon, something to kind of complement my warlock. And, if wrath is anything like BC, we are gonna hit honored just doing some quests, and exalted should be easy with that new system that let's you be a "champion" of a faction, thus gaining more rep when running instances.

Also, seeing as how heroic loot is actually worth getting, rep should be no problem and people will finally use heroics like they were meant to be used: a stepping stone to raiding.

So at exalted it ends up costing you 1600g.

I really adore my albino drake now. I'm looking forward to getting the red version of it. The 1600 gold is the same as the Cenarion Expedition flyer, which is no where near as fun looking as a huge red dragon. ;-)

I recently got the Albino Drake (it was too easy being exalted with all 5 Horde factions + all BC factions, namely Mag'har, Skyguard and Netherwing), and whilst I hated the skin (it's just butt ugly), I loved the model. I always liked the colour of the netherdrakes, but they do look like dragon-fish hybrids, when a lot of WoW players are just interested in the dragon part. ^_^

So having a sexy red version available has put me over the moon. It's like getting a decent car with a crappy paint job, and then getting it repainted into a sexy sleek red. And you know what they say... red dragons fly faster.

It's even worse now that when they're skimming along the ground their flight animation speeds up and they appear to be spazzing.

Edit: They've now fixed it and the animation is back to normal speed. :D

I refuse to buy rare grade mounts to reach 50 mounts. I will, however, easily reach the achievement with these added WotLK mounts. I can't wait to buy this one. I'm glad that they made one of the drakes purchasable; and a red one at that!

You know, there two pictures available to view, the one dated 10/12/2008 and the one dated 9/28/2008.

Now if you think about it, the post that talked about the drake being got at Honered is dated 10/04/2008.

Now when you see that date, if you think about it, Lich King didn't come out until 11/13/2008. Which if you also think about it means that the pics could have been, and lets just take a wild guess, during Beta.

And if you think even more about it, possible at Beta the drake could have been gotten at Honered. But with Beta over, if you're still thinking about it, Blizz could have decided to change it to Exalted.

But of course I could be wrong, but its just something to think about.

Got this mount in no time, just did some group quests to get me to friendly status, bought my tabard (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43156)

and farmed heroics for about three days, after that i got my drake. xD
really easy with the new blizzard tabard implementation.

Looks sexier than a Netherwing mount but... Reaching exalted with Netherwing faction in TBC is something I am proud of. It actually needed some effort for a great reward (the mount). Now, 1600G to get the SAME item with a different skin-tone doe not excite me so much, I mean I would love a different model like proto-drakes or albino drake, But not a red-netherwing mount, for that gold :)

Anyway, it's a good solution for newcomers who will never ever gind rep in TBC content, thus making impossible to get a "original" Netherwing mount.

I am aware of this, but in order to calculate it's exalted value you must first calculate it's neutral value from it's honored value. I included the neutral value because it isn't that big a deal and so that people who weren't sure how I got 1.6K would be able to see how I got the value.

It's not really a different model.

In terms of geometry, all that was changed was the addition of a saddle. The rest of the geometry is the same as other drakes in the game.

The Drake itself will cost 1600g at exalted. So..

Total Cost at level 80 atfer already purchasing Cold Weather Flying and Artisan Riding would be 1600g. obviously.

Total cost at level 80 if he/she hasnt purchased either flight skills would be approximately 7600g.

I just bought this and luckily I have enough money to not complain about the money loss.

My complaints:
1. This is a Pre-BC model and skin. Well, WoW's graphics have improved over time and this old model/texture is outdated and looks... not so good, compared to recent Wotlk models.
2. It has the footprints of a barefoot human.
3. The animations are crappy. The landing animation shows up only if you fly towards the ground. It looks like you're landing and stopping, but you're still moving, so you're sliding for a second over the ground.
The flying animation is screwed up. It looks like the drake is hanging and sliding on a wire, flapping just "by the way". The flaps are in no relation to the movement of the main body... Unlike, for example, the proto-drake animations.
The "running back" animation doesn't fit with the speed. It's too slow, you're kind of sliding back.

I just got my drake (and bracers) last night and I must say it really wasn't that hard. Between the daily in Dragonblight, and the two in the Coldarra on top of running heroics with the tabard on....I'd say it took me about a week. This isn't constant grinding mind you, it's occasionally playing for about 3-4 hours a night about 3-5 times a week. So if you are looking at the drake and thinking it's too hard for you, just do the dailies when you can and if it takes you a while, trust me, it's very worth it :).

Just as a side note, has anyone else noticed that the red drake is larger than the bronze one? ;D

"Realistic" in the sense that a red drake that isn't made of energy would be easier to imagine existing in the real world. Go ahead and whine and cry, saying "But WoW isn't supposed to be realistic lolol," but his statement makes sense. If you had to imagine that on some long-forgotten obscure island a dragon still existed it would be easier to think of one that's solid rather than see through energy.

i got my drake a couple weeks ago and i love it it is th first drake ive ever had uget it from bieng exalted with the wyrmrest accord.. for 1600g.. not that bad of a deal. imo

Realistically, it's about 1900 to 2300 per heroic, because most of the time your group isn't going to pull every group in every instance.

But on the bright side, you can knock out heroics like Stratholme, Utgarde Keep, Gundrak and Violet hold in 25-30 minutes each. If you've got a good group of friends or guildies who like to run heroics, you can do four quick clears and the dailies in about 2 to 3 hours, netting you about 9k rep a day.

Also, in response to a comment below about this model being "outdated": It's the same model as the Black, Bronze and Twilight Drakes, and people are salivating over those. Video game "prestige" aside, the drake mounts DO look great, especially if you're upgrading aesthetically from your basic epic windrider or gryphon. The landing animation can be choppy at times, but there's nothing at all wrong with the flight animation. I bought my Red Drake a few days ago and I'm loving it.

However, there is a form beyond dragon. A drake becomes a dragon at approx. 100 years of age. A dragon becomes a wyrm at approx. 500 years of age.

Some of the most famous non-aspect dragons (Nefarian, Sintharia, Kalecgos (possibly), Arcanigos, and all of the aspects before their teaparty with the Titans) were Wyrms.

I like the looks of these, but the best looking ones are the proto-drakes imo. The link i of the red one, since this is red, but you get the picture:) anyways, a matter of taste really, I just think proto-drakes look meaner:)

For those who havent noticed, since patch v3.0.8 these mounts including the other mounts with the same model seem to be gliding when flying and soaring. They also seem to have changed the animation when you are on the ground and turning the mount around - it will lift his/her wings. Awesome details if you ask me. I was always wondering why the CoT taxi mount did it and not my mount with the exact same model.

I could add that all drakes in the game appear to flap backwards... Rep is easy to get with tabbard and quests. I have the rep for it just not the gold :-/

Well... I just hit level 77 so i'm hoping to get this mount because it looks awsome being honest.. the bronze looks pathetic, albino..... im not even going to say... i'm just wanting to get that sexy mount before i hit level 80 but how is it possible to get it when there is 1 daily there... its quite annoying when you need to be EXALTED so it kinda enrages me, can someone please reply to this and tell me how it is possible to be able to get my rep up so high with this "Wyrmrest" group

They really don't look all that different..I say just pay the 2000g for the Red Drake, who wants to do that annoying achievement for a drake who looks a bit differant, almost similar to this red drake.

Wyrmrest Accord sells some pretty nice epics/enchants at exalted anyway.
But in the end it's your choice.

It's silly to compare the red proto drake to the red drake. People would go for the red proto over the red regular drake for different reasons. They're both red, but the similarities end there.
The red proto is a different model, with different animations and a different /mountspecial. It is also much harder to obtain, and therefore having one is much more of a status symbol than the regular drake.

Until I finally completed the quests to get my paws on my Reins of the Red Proto-Drake, I used nothing but the Onyx Netherwing Drake exclusively. I personally love the way the Netherwing Drakes look. The perfect animal: a flying shark lizard.

But I agree with Laihendi: who's to say what "realistic" looks like, anyway? More detailed texture-wise, okay. Beyond that? Ehhh...

now i dont have this mount yet, but i am very eager to get it, and i am close to exalted now

the best way to get exalted with anyone is to simply do the following:

-power quest
-dailies
-where the tabard in lvl 80 instances
-kill any monsters u see that will get u even the slightest bit of rep with the faction

u do all of this, and u will be in dalaran riding ur shiny red drake in no time :)

Would also like to add this is one of the few mounts (that I have at least) that shares a global cooldown with other spells.

In other words, if you try to create a macro to autocast Crusader Aura (as I do in my random mount macro) before actually mounting, it won't work with this mount... :\ It will just proceed to tell you that spell is not ready yet after casting Crusader Aura. So while not triggering a GCD on it's own, it will be on the GCD if one casts their Crusader Aura. Very frustrating as I enjoy the looks of my Red Drake over my Bronze...

EDIT: Looks like my macro won't work with any mounts soon enough :\ Official Blizzard response to this issue I found.

The dragons we speak about here are one of the few examples of mythical creatures in WoW that actually has been created in their "real" image.

Personally, I think WoW's Dwarves seem to fit their short, powerful, bearded pop-culture counterparts rather well. All the way down to the accent.

Not sure if I'm imagining this but as of the current patch it looks like there was a second ground animation fix to this mount too (the first being when they lifted its head). The wings seem more "floppy" and elastic as it moves, and its backside moves back and forth a bit. It's subtle, but the change is very nice and makes the dated drake model look much more lifelike.

I don't find it that good looking.

And before anyone assumes it, I had bought it on a previous character. On the one I'm playing now though, I don't plan to.

The main reason is the bulky animation and the very thick (solid) look of the animal.

The Outlands ones were better (but too bored to grind solely for vanity items).

I love the drakes.

Probably my only complaint is:

When I'm herbing and doing my "beep beep beep" backup on the ground because I overshot a node, that stupid jump of the whole screen happens on occasion.

Then I immediately panic. (Storm Giant/Fel Reaver/OMGSOMETHINGHUGEANDSTOMPY thoughts) Then I remember it's my drake being glitchy. And I feel silly.

I ended up with a blue drake before this one. I wasn't expecting that. Cannot wait to be exalted so I can buy this...then ONWARD to 8K and the hodir grand mammoth! :D

Maybe it works more like this: "Donate 1600 gold to the cause of Wyrmrest Accord and get a Red Drake!".

Anyways, this mount is awesome. I found the Bronze Drake in CoS (I didn't even know there was a boss there that dropped a mount), but I'm still saving up to get this one.

It's worth noting that the 3 daily quests for wyrmrest now give 325 reputation instead of 250, making it a little faster for people relying soley on daily quests for reputation.

i grinded rep for this mount with only the tabard and it only took me like 3 weeks doing a heroic or 2 every day and never even looking at the quests and it was fun but long. (this was b4 the random dungeon finder was implemented so it took like an hour to find a group unless you had a huge guild) i still don't have the mount yet cuz i did this b4 i had max riding skill and i still needed about all the gold from it.

Reached level 80, had the tabard and was just above friendly. 17 points from exalted after running about 10 heroics and a couple of normal ICC five mans. Went by much quicker than I was expecting.

I got this in 5 minutes. My advice:

Get to a high level and earn a lot of justice points. 140 from the random daily and around 240 for clearing a regular 85 dungeon, it'll be easy. All you have to do is go to Dalaran and buy the commendation badge for Wyrmrest over and over. They're 16 justice points a piece and they give you 500 something. I didn't even bother with the tabard or dailies.

The money may be grind, but if you're doing well with your professions on the auction house, you can manage easily.

It's good to see that I'm not the only one disturbed by the Red Dragonflight selling their own progeny out for a mere 1600 gold. I'd easily pay 5000 or even 10000 gold for one, their loss though.

You can buy the rep with about 1k justice points
with the gold i got 900 and a great friend said have 700 and you daont have to pay back if you dont want to
i will pay him back though because thats alot to give away at level 75

Before I go crazy trying to rep up for this drake, I've read that you can only use this mount in outland and Northren. Is this true? Kalimdor, SW, etc... you cannot mount it in these areas?

I don't know when this was last updated, but I went from Neutral to Exalted in a single day. Just make sure you have around 2k Justice Points and head on over to the Argent Tournament grounds. If you're Alliance, speak to the NPC who offers the Commendations for each faction. I paid 16JP per commendation. So.... roughly 70 commendations and volia! Exalted.

Also, the drake only cost me 1400g after the faction discount.

It looks pretty snazzy with my warlock!

We have at least one drake mount from four out of the five dragonflights (Reins of the Bronze Drake, Reins of the Blue Drake, Reins of the Black Drake, Reins of the Red Drake) yet after three expansions (soon to be four) we still don't have even one green drake mount! I mean, sure we have Reins of the Green Proto-Drake but it's a proto-drake, not a regular drake. I want my green drake mount!

I hate having to grind rep and dungeons get boring....This was perfect for me because of my love of battlegrounds. Simply save up 1,300 Jp and go to Arcanist Miluria for Ally or Magistrix Vesara for horde and buy Wyrmrest commendation badges to get to exalted with 7 Jp left over. Now about that money.....

First off, the Reins of the Red Drake costs 1400g with Bartering.

Now, to get the Reins of the Red Drake fast and easy without rep grinding, you can trade in 16x Justice Points for Wyrmrest Commendation Badge from Arcanist Miluria the Legacy Justice Quartermaster in the Silver Enclave auction house in Dalaran. It says it gives you 520 rep but I was getting 640 (or close to that) per 16 Justice Points.

Don't have Justice Points?

Go to Stormwind City and trade in 375x Honor Points in exchange for 250x Justice Points to Edlan Halsing the Honor Trade Goods guy in Champion's Hall located in Old Town.

Hey guys , there's an easy way to get exalted with Wyrmrest. There are badges you can buy in Dalaran to get your reputation up. the badge's picture is a red backround with a blakish dragon picture. it cost 16 justice points for each one. you can buy as many as u need. u just need to be able to farm justice point like crazy. also if u run out out of justice points, you can trade in 375 honor points to get 250 justice points. I became exalted with Wyrmrest in two days tops. :) and once you become exalted with them the red drake cost 1400g. so be prepared. one more thing , If you want to take your time with it, you can just buy the tabard for Wyrmrest. Have fun! :) :) :) :) THIS IS IF YOU ARE HORDE.

As a human it took exactly 64 Wyrmrest Commendation Badges (1024 Justice points) to reach exalted, for any other race it will take exactly 70 of them (1120 Justice points) Cielstrasza <Wyrmrest Accord Quartermaster> (seller) is at Wyrmrest temple in Dragonblight.
I ran into this problem also "It has been confirmed that the NPC is hidden under another NPC. Though I have pictures that show this is NOT always true. Seems strange, but it did actually happen where she was hidden, then visible, then hidden again."-KynlasDK. Yes, she still sells http://www.wowhead.com/item=43955.

If you are trying to obtain this on an alt, or character you made post-Cataclysm, and you don't feel like grinding the Wyrmrest quests you can buy Wyrmrest Commendation Badge with justice points to reach the required exalted reputation.

It will cost you 1,293 Justice points to go from neutral to exalted, not taking in to account human racial reputation bonuses.

Since MoP, the "Requires The Wyrmrest Accord - Exalted" means only one of your chars has to be Exalted.
My Level 69 alt was able to mount up on this without needing rep.

The easiest way to do this (for me) at level 85, was through JP (Justice Points). By the time I hit level 85 (the moment I hit level 85) from random Cataclysm dungeons, and random WotLK dungeons, I had enough JP accumulated to:
a) Hearth to Dalaran
b) Speak to Magistrix Vesara, a Legacy Justice Quartermaster
c) Go to Page 2 of items she sells
d) Buy around 83 Wyrmest Accord Commendation Badges ( I had around 1343 JP, give or take a few)

Each badge rewards 520 reputation, a pretty easy way to level reputation. I used each badge, and had around 5-10 left over, AFTER I was exalted. Then, I went and purchased my mount.

For those looking to improve Sons of Hodir reputation, which provides mammoths, commendation badges for that faction are available.

More badges for the Ebon Blade, Argent Dawn, and Kirin Tor, are present, and all badges are 16 JP per badge, each badge reward 520 reputation!

Go to Youtube, search for : Get Red Drake the lazy way.. and the channel to Bananabombprods will appear, and there you go! :)

If you have lots of Justice Points ( like over 1000) then you have enough and can make your self the dragon is no-time. ( maybe in 30 min or less)

Very easy to get now, if your guild got the rep bonus you'll gain 572 rep per badge

572*20 = 11440 so basically you'll need around 80 in order to get Exalted. Used 60 and are atm at revered 13,820/21,000.

To get this mount you need to be Exalted with the The Wyrmrest Accord faction. Easiest way to do that is to buy Wyrmrest Commendation Badge for 16 Justice Points Each. They are sold from Legacy Justice Quartermasters in Icecrown and Dalaran.
To get from Neutral to Exalted you need about 81 Badges/1296 Justice Points. But if you have the Mr. Popularity Guild buff, only 74 Badges/1184 Justice Points is needed.
