This mount is rumored to be quite expensive. Not the regular 200g, but 2000g. So if you're interested in buying one of these you'll have to spend 5k for 300 riding, and 2k for the mount itself.

New in patch 2.3, this is an epic flying mount which costs 2000g (1600g with the exalted discount) and requires you to have trained the ability to fly at an epic pace.

This mount is available to both horde and alliance. Like the Brewfest Ram, the availability to horde has caused some backlash from alliance players and roleplayers alike.

Prior to this hippogryphs have served as the primary flying public transport mount between cities controlled by the night elves. The exalted cenarion mount comes in original flavour only. It's grounded animation is the same as it's flying animation, much like the skyguard netherray.

Currently only available in "original" (same color as flight path mount).
Other colors may be introduced in the future, such as blue/teal, ivory/brown, lilac, and white.

It should also be worth noting, currently they can't land. They run by floating above the ground. This bug persists on the latest PTR build, and likely will not be fixed before the patch is released.

Something you need to remember is you're only seeing this on the PTR. IT IS NOT LIVE!

Effectively this means that the other flavors will probably be added later in the PTR sequence (since the models are already created) or upon release onto live servers.

Unfortunately that's not very likely. If you were to look inside the game files you'd find that a lot of models get extra skins that are never used. I'm not saying we'll never see these alternate versions, but I am saying it is likely they will not be attainable by players in 2.3.

This mount is a true epic mount... Meaning it is not a 280% mount, it is faster than that, like the pheonix and pvp armored netherdrake. It is well worth the 1600 gold. This is how it is on the PTR... This fact also explains why this mount is 8 times more expensive than other epic flyers like the netherdrakes and netherrays.

There really is no sense in saying the mount costs 2000 gold because you have to be exhalted to get the mount, which means you will automatically get the 20% discount, which makes it 1600 gold. If you dont have the rep, you wont be able to buy it, but the shown price will say 2000

I'd just like to clarify,

You need 5,000 gold to get the epic riding skill. Then on top of that you need 2,000 gold (maybe 1,600) plus exalted status with Cenarion Expedition, correct?

I was hoping that the 2,000 plus being exalted would get me the mount. Thus saving me 3,000 gold over an epic gryphon mount.... but from what I'm reading it will actually cost more.

It's actually 500 gold now, without discount (which you get since you need exalted to purchase anyway) bringing it down to 400 realistically. And to roleplayers, yes this is important so they don't have to use a gryphon as a night elf (I could care less, but thats just me.) Important, not really, waste of money, most likely...

Can anybody confirm that this mount does not have a running animation while moving along the ground - or rather, my question is: has Blizzard fixed the ground-running animation yet? And it got no walk animation, THIS IS NOT A BUG.

No hippogryphs in the game got walking animations. I don't get where you people got that silly idea from. You can still "land" and activate walk and then move slowly over the ground.
Working as intended. The different colours found by datamining does not nessary have anything to do with this one. There is only one colour, and that's the end of it.

Besides, the mount is lovely, and a nice colour change from my gryphon,netherray,netherdrake and stormcrow form I normaly use.

I'm a little confused. Nobody mentioned if we can use this mount even if we're not exalted. Because it is mentioned we can buy it with non-exalted rep for more than 1.6g.

If you can't use it until your exalted... then why would you buy it if you're not exalted with a more expensive price?

I cant really understand why it costs so much, when the others (as stated above) costs somewhere around 200 gold. Im exalted with Netherwing, so I have my drake, exalted with Sha'tari Skyguard, so I can buy a ray whenever I want, and ofc I already have a gryphon. 2000 g for another mount is just silly, any speculations why it was made so expensive?

personally, i will buy this mount instead of the drake, simply because i love rubbing things like this in alliance face on my server. for me it's worth the 2000g. for an alliance player i don't think it would be worth it though.

I personally like this mount but not for the money it costs to obtain one. I have seen it in game allready and the graphics are nothing special in comparison to some other mounts. There is no glow or glowing trail that it leave like the drake or ray. Not too mention that it has feet but it dosent really use it to land on them. So there is no walking animation to it. And as far as this being the symbol of any kind i havent found anything in my search other then it being a guardian of Night elf cities and also the flight path bird between controlled elf's. So the only thing that comes to my mind just like someone mentioned above is the money sink to control the margin of economy with having too many people and guilds being way to rich even after they have purchased their epic flying skill i mean like 5-10k rich and there isnt much that you can buy thats over 200g from exalted epic rewards.

Personaly this isnt worth it i would still get one when i hit exalted with CE and have some dispposable income to dump on such a thing but by all means Blizzard could of spend some more time on this and make it better if not graphic wise atleast make it faster so all the other ppl can enjoy flying at faster speen then 280%.

bare in mind that even in Azeroth there was never a running animation for hippogryphs. As mobs, they've always floated around just above the ground.

Beh, 1600 gold, that's two weeks of doing your dailies. In other words, a cakewalk.

If you have done the 5K grind already, and can do the Netherdrake dailies, making 1K a week is easily made in <2 hours a day.

The thing is, people tend to spend their easily-earned cash on other things, like having their craftable epics made, snatching world-epics from the AH, buying reagents for their pots, and all that. Getting that extra 1600 isn't hard at all, but people spend it on more epics and reagents. ^^

I just tested selling it to a vendor (and then bought it back) and it does indeed sell to vendor for 500g at the moment. So you could say it costs 1100g if the ability to sell this mount remains in place, and you decide to replace it with another mount in future.

I'm less worried about the cost. Once you pay 5,000g getting another 1600g should be a lot easier.

My problem is the fact that you also have to have exalted rep with the correct faction. And unless I'm mistaken the only way to get the rep is to repeatedly do runs thru the Steamvaults.

How many runs? Well you'll need 21,000 rep. and 1,662 for a full clear is 12.63 complete runs.

I'm a PVP person, countless runs thru instances annoy me. The worst part is waiting for everyone to show up and the wiping. Also, many times when i pick up a group they're just looking for a Kara key, so I only pick up around 400 honor. at that rate I'll need 52 runs!

The only other thing I can think of is to buy coilfang armaments from AH. That's pretty expensive though. 83 rep per turn in divided by 21,000 = 253. At an average of 10g per armament that's 2,530 gold, plus the 1600 for a total of 4,130g

OUCH!!!!

I'm just not sure what's faster, farming the gold and buying armaments or grinding thru instances all day. Probably the instances as annoying as they are.

Extremly sweet mount though; if it were in other colors that would be even better.

Once you're at Honored, yes, Slave Pens and Underbog stop giving rep on normal. However, with the change to heroics, you can start doing those on heroic mode, and still obtain rep. It's not quite as bad as it's made out to be.

Honored to Exalted is quite simple nothing crazy involved.

Do every quest for them outside the instances, turn in all the arnament you can get, run the daily heroic and non-heroic daily (run it on heroic though) when it is in underbog, slave pens, or steam vaults. You get all the rep for the clear and 250 rep for completing the daily.

The major quest hubs for CE are in: Hellfire, Zangarmarsh, Terrokar forest, Blades edge mountains.

no, it doesn't walk. it's not really supposed to. none of the ones in feralas or aszhara walk, they hover along the ground exactly like this one does, so why is anyone surprised?

only thing im dissapointed with is theres no color options. there's 5 different colors in the model files if i recall, all complete, so why not let us pick them? hopefully if and when they release them they let us trade in the original one for the other colors. probably though, they wont, resulting in much QQ and massive petition threads until they do.

Well, both windriders at stonetalon mountains and gryphons at Hinterlands "hover along", but their mount versions have the ability to land. I think Blizzard is slacking, or worse, someone over there is sitting and laughing on those who buy that mount which was probably forgotten to be checked if it can land before being added in the game. LoL

Keeping that in mind, it really makes a TON of sense seeing how they don't walk... So what if they don't, its not like it makes this mount un-appealing to own... heck if my rogue had the epic mount money right now... he would definitely get this mount just for the looks... NOTHING ELSE!

Kind-of the reason why I got a Dark War Talbuk vs the White War Talbuk... It's all about looks and the prestigious value to armor, mounts, and weapons in WoW.

There are many reasons for the insane price on this mount, although none of them are excusable. 1,600 gold (You can't get it until exalted so it's net cost is 1,600 gold) is too much for a mount and a complete waste of gold. The other exalted rep faction mounts are 170 gold and as such there is simply no excuse for this costing 1,600 gold. The only thing that differentiates this mount from other mounts is the look, that's it, nothing more nothing less. It doesn't even go any faster. That being said, whether you can easily afford it or not, is not the case here, and if you reply that some people have the gold and nothing to do with it, then this is going strait over you head. I'm simply stating that because this mount offers nothing special over other mounts (if you say looks then you could argue that with any mount, as they all look different) and the fact that you obtain it in a similar fashion (getting to exalted with a faction) it's price should be 170 gold. Some people might argue that it's to balance the wow economy, and while that does make since, and actually is one of the reasons blizzard set the price so high, it's not anything that anyone should be worried about. It's a video game, and stabilization of "currency" is not really a big deal. I guess I really shouldn't be talking since I know very little about economics, but something in the back of my mind just keeps telling me that it doesn't matter because none of this is real. Regardless, you'll find very few players that actually shrug this 1,600 gold off. Even of the rich players it took them a while to get their gold and so "earning" the gold back from such an overpriced mount would set most people back a week or more, and the hardcore farmer a few days, or even one day if they played all day and did nothing but farm/dailies.

Now that all the facts are out of the way, I'd like to express my opinion of this mount. For me personally, I think it's an awesome looking mount, however, I will not flush 1,600 gold down the drain for this mount. It offers nothing to me that makes it worth that much (though I wouldn't even spend 170 gold on it, as it takes up my very limited inventory space) and so I can't justify under any situation spending that much gold on a mount. I think that anyone that purchases this mount is literally throwing away gold. I know it's your gold and you can do what you want, but when anything gets wasted it just makes me sick. In my eyes, if you're going to trow away 1,600 gold on a mount just because it looks cool, you might as well give it away. It would be put to much better use. For example, people that just joined the server and are having trouble getting enough gold for their first, and second ground mounts. Or even for mats for someone to get enchants; that would help out their guild, and their raids and thus help many people. Honestly when it comes right down to it, almost anything is more useful than this mount. And at the very least, if you bought for the "oh cool look at that mount" factor, you won't get that expression from me. When I see the mount, I get disgusted that someone would throw away gold on it, and I'm sure there are at least a few other people that feel that way...or I'd like to think that anyway :\

Well not really, and in my option, no, it isn't at all, since 10 spell damage is kind of worthless. However, since this enchant actually has a use, then yes, it is justifiable.

Is it justifiable to spend 400g for a 20 slot bag, when you can get a 16 slot one for 10g at most?

I'm gonna have to so no again, because the Price to slot ratio for each bag is very vast. However, again, this bag does actually does have a use, and I have about 4 primal mooncloth bags on my character. I didn't pay 400 gold for them though, I got the mats and had them made for much less.

Is it justifiable to grind reputation for one whole month to get a netherdrake?

Depends on if you want the drake or not, bug regardless, the dailies you are doing will provide you with a lot of gold, and more than enough to get the drake once you hit exalted. For me personally no, it's not, but I'll still do the dailies anyway because they get me gold.

Absolutely not. I'll say it again, this mount only looks cool, but other than that provides nothing beneficial, which is the point I'm trying so hard to get across to people like you. Yes it's your gold, and you can do what you want with it, but no matter what, it is a waste of gold and could of gone to something much more useful, even if you're sitting on a 20,000 gold stockpile.

If you travel 10% of the time, is it justifiable to even buy an epic mount just to get a 2% overall speed increase?

Yes yes and oh god YES! However, you seam to be confused here, the speed difference between an epic mount and a flying mount is enormous, much more than 2%, and while the 5k gold IS a rip off, it is very justifiable because, again, the speed difference is freaking huge. I did a lot of reading about mount speed increases, and item enchant/riding crop speed increases. Your total speed on a non-epic flying mount is 160% (when you're running on ground you're already going 100% speed and you get a speed increase by 60%. by means to multiply. 100 x .6 = 60%, then just add that to your total speed 100% + 60% = 160%) With epic mounts, however, your speed increase is by 280%, which is a total speed of 380%. And when you equip a riding crop, you're total speed shoots up to 418% (380 x .1 = 38%, 380% + 38% = 418% total speed.)

While I can see where he's coming from, some people value aesthetics a little more highly than he seems to.

While there's no tangible value to the mount itself, it's no faster, it doesn't have lasers, it -is- relatively rare, and for some people that is a value in and of itself.

I mean, might as well argue that a pristine diamond has no real purpose, it's just something shiny that costs a lot... However they're rare. and are impressive, and for some people that's all the reason needed.

Those are the only mounts currently in-game that travel at 310% speed, to my knowledge.(Swift/Merciless/Vengeful Nethedrakes are from Arena, you had to be in the 0.5% of top team ratings on your battlegroup in Season one, two and 3 to get them, and Ashes of A'lar from Kael'thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep)

I fail to see why everyone has a problem with the lack of a running animation. I for one find most of the ground animations annoying. Especially the windrider one. Its ridiculous. Bobbling along all the time.

If you dont like the lack of a ground animation, save yourself 1600g and dont get one.

At this day and age, I still don't understand why the Horde can even touch these f*cking animals, much less ride and own them. Are Night Elves in collusion with the Horde?

(On a separate note, why can Aldor and Scryers get together for the "Shattered Sun Offensive" but those f*gs in the Aldor rise still won't sell me anything if I'm a Scryer? They can trust each other enough to battle side by side against a common enemy but not enough to sell me a f*cking jewelcrafting recipe?)

Neither do the gryphons in The Hinterlands walk (example 1, 2). Or the pridewings (essentially windriders) in Stonetalon Mountains (example 1, 2).

The only state we got to see them before Burning Crusade was a flying state. When it came out, they naturally made walking animations for our mounts.

So to make things consistent, Blizzard would either need to rip the walking animations off our gryphon & windrider mounts (which I think nobody would want), or do the logical solution and just give those hippogryphs a walking animation.

Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

The Cenarion Circle and Cenarion Expedition are neutral factions and give quests to both the Alliance and the Horde. It is an organization of mostly Druids whose aim is to preserve the balance of nature. They work towards their goal and ally with anyone who shares their ideals, similar to the Argent Dawn. So, if you are trying to use lore as an argument and say that this mount should be Alliance-only, then you are mistaken.

Both the Aldor and Scryer factions have unique reputation rewards available to them. Which faction is more useful is a question that varies in answer by class (and spec), although the rewards are best described as 'different but equal'. Perhaps it would have been wise to compare the items before you chose one or the other, but I'm sure most people will agree with me when I say that none of the items are really 'game-breaking', especially this late in TBC.

they are meant not to walk on ground as Blizz have said, even they have 4 legs, but they do not walk as all Hippogryph does not walk in the game , it's their game, their design, accept it, other than that, i think it's still one of the coolest Mount there is after Drake

mmm the war hippogryph...now it may not be as fancy as say your drake, the faction mounts, or others but it has a certain charm. to have one makes me feel like i am on my night elf flying from point A to point B in the Ashenvale.

i suppose when you decide on your land or air mount you have to take into consideration personal tastes, as well as the debatable how status seeking you truly are.

so i say get whatever mount you want whether from vendors, raids, quests, or factions just get what makes you happy.

For myself I truly enjoy riding my griff and seeing the feathers flap in the breeze. :P

One good thing about this mount is that it's relatively small, at least compared to the screen space taken up by the drake. This makes it ideal for any aerial-based dailies, as it sits near the center of the screen and you can actually see around it.

By the time i get Exalted w/ Netherwing, i'd have at least 2000+g, if not more.

I absolutely love this mount, I think it's beautiful and very cool. However, I find it odd from a flavor and RP standpoint that the very explicitly druidic Cenarion Expedition gives a mount that would not be used by druids. Not that I am complaining about flight form.

The lack of a walking animation is making me really cautious about buying this.

The last epic flyer I made was my Turbo-charged flying machine, I flew it once after using about 800g materials and stuck it in my bank. It's horrible, so I'm kind of scared of spending 1600g on something I won't like to use everywhere...

Both makes sense from an RP view.
The Cenarion aren't the night elves. As was mentioned, it's about druids (of which night elves are part of, but so are Taurens). Also they don't just hand out the Hippogryph's to any orc (or human or night elf even) who happens to pass by. You need to be exalted with them, which means that you're at the very least a trusted ally to them. Since they're neutral they're willing to let anyone help their cause, but you still need to gain the reputation.

As for the scyers/aldor, they generally don't like each other but can work well enough against a common enemy. Even then there is still some tension between the two factions. Although they are allies, they are still separate factions; just because two groups work together doesn't mean they'll hand out all their secrets to each other. While it might be strange to think of jewelcrafting as military technology (blacksmithing is much less of a stretch), this is a fantasy world and they do give you combat bonuses.

I find this a way Blizzard made to take some gold out to make the inflaction not keep rising like crazy (giving new players a chance to use the AH). This, the Shattered sun offensive title and some other things that cost a few thousand gold have that main objective i guess. On the other hand, costing a high price and requiring a lot of work ( to get to exalted) makes it unique indeed :)

the price sets this apart as a unique mount, where as just about everyone has a nether ray or netherdrake, the hippogryph is extremely unique and well worth the cost to not have the same thing everyone else has. I've seen more albino drakes than hippogryphs on my server, I fully believe it's the most unique flying mount behind the Phoenix that drops from TK 25-man and the arena drakes.

Is it just me, or is the animation when running along the group screwed up since 3.0.3? The flying animation is fine, but the wings move twice as fast as normal as do the legs when 'galloping' when on the ground. It's looks really weird.

why u see rarely hippogryphs is simply becuase its a greedy gamer´s mount... so are also the new albino drakes... also why would i ride my old hippogryph when i have my albino drake, the symbol of richness and mount amount...

As of patch 3.0.8 (or maybe the quickie hotfix right after?) the "drunk rabbit with intestinal problems" animation when landing has been taken out. It now flies at the same speed as in the air when on the ground. But they still haven't added landing animations :(

I'd say this mount isn't worth the 1.6k gold now that they added soaring and turning animations to the WotLK drake mounts. You get really tired of minimizing the window and hearing flap, flap, flap...

i'm currently working on getting this mount for my shadow priest, mainly because i think a shadow hippogryph has to be the coolest mount. and for those who don't think horde should ride one of these - i personally must have brought 50 hippogryph eggs to that machine in gadgetzan hoping for the extraordinary. if i didn't save enough hatchlings i don't know who did. :)

This wonderful mount, as of 3.0.8, no longer "spazzes" as a ground animation.

As well, there are a pair of Hippogryphs in the Alliance encampment located in Crystalsong. These stand on all fours, and would probably run if engaged. There's a ground animation alright, Blizz simply hasn't put two and two together,

There's another Hippogryph being added in 3.1 as part of the Argent Crusade event, and screenshots indicate it rests on all fours. Will this one be retroactively updated to do so too? Time will tell, but I hope so.

UPDATE! (2009)

Take a look at this picture.
It implies two things.

1. Hippogryphs as of patch 3.1 (I assume) will have a 'running/ground animation'.
2. Blizzard has decided to start using the other hippogryph colour skins.

Though honestly, it's the running animation that does it for me.
This inspires me to buy the cenarion hippogryph. Enjoy!

The Argent Hippogryph coming in 3.1 appears to be a retextured version of this mount, although this one is actually capable on landing instead of being forced to hover. Does this mean they'll finally fix the Cenarion version too?

I don't think it was mentioned yet, but there is a new reason for spending the money and dealing with the animation (which is hopfully fixed today) for this mount. There's 2 mounts that can only be obtained through others. Unless you get really lucky with many of the droped mounts, you'll been needing this one in your barn to get the Albino Drake and Dragonhawk.

The Dragonhawk expecially since I think the last time I counted there was only a few more then 100 to actually get in total currently. Not counting the TCG and Retiered mounts as most players can't get those.

Today did i get the mount, i was around 3k rep away from exalted so i and a friend went to do some tbc heroics! we 2 man'ed slave pens to get Cenarion War Hippogryph. My friends wasnt so intrested so i just bougth it! i really like it. but the fact that it costed me 1600 gold is kind a scary ;S but i recommend it really! gogo and buybuy

Strangely, you can't do a /use Cenarion War Hippogryph-- I tried and it worked for every other mount I have.

Does anyone have a solution for this? It's my preferred flying mount- the only one Horde has that goes with a Paladin.

EDIT: Found out why. The Cenarion War Hippogryph exists as an item (to compensate from when Blizz wiped out mounts). It doesn't resolve the issue, but at least we know why.

EDIT: Going to the bank, deleting the extra Hippogryph, and relogging solved the problem. Blizzard actually picks up what items you have in the bank and factors them in your macros? That's awesome.

Anyway, just delete the extra mount (item) and relog if you have the same problem with any of your mounts. ;)

no, it doesn't walk. it's not really supposed to. none of the ones in feralas or aszhara walk, they hover along the ground exactly like this one does, so why is anyone surprised?

The gryphons of Arathi Highlands hover in the same way, yet the mounts were given a run animation. Please think your comments through.

Also if you peruse through the model files via wowmodelview program, a standing animation currently exists. Why it was not applied seems to be beyond everyone. Perhaps it is clunky or bugged. In any case, Argent Hippogryphs have been released recently, perhaps their owners will necro this old subject and encourage change upon Blizzards part.

This is one beautiful bird. The color scheme is more neutral than the one of the Argent Hippogryph and therefore it might be a hippogryph of choice for wider range of characters, because white colored bird does not really fit anyone apart from holy priests and paladins (talking on RP perspective here).

Favorite mount now with all the added animations. A stretch animation, one where it looks about left and right, one where it will scratch at the ground and then flick up like it is eating something. And the run animation is fairly cool in and of itself.

With all this and its unique color and not being a freight train like the Dragons and whatnot. I personally think it brings it out ahead of the pack.

With the advent of Patch 3.3, this bird has gained a lot of new animations. For one, it now has a standing and running one. FINALLY!

In addition, it has more idle animations than any creature I've seen. Thus far, I'ev seen:

*a slight head-tilt and tail flick
*a more extreme step and look around
*stretching one wing, then the other, using its hind legs
*scratching and pecking at the ground

In addition, it has a completely separate /mountspecial.

A very active mount!

I don't see why there should be any roleplayers would have a reason to be upset about this. The Cenarion Circle accept aid from all quarters be they horde or alliance, so anyone who has put in the time and effort to obtain this mount should deserve it regardless of race or faction. I'm quite looking froward to obtaining this myself for my Tauren Shaman.

But he's not talking about Gryphons. Ever hear of the phrase, "Comparing apples and oranges"? (I believe) his point was that, as we haven't actually seen any Hippogryphs walking, we shouldn't be surprised that this one didn't (It does now however, which is beside the point). The fact that the gryphon mounts did doesn't change that, as he is talking about Hippogryphs, not Gryphons.

I was 10k into honored starting today and then I got into a group with 2 others and we grinded Steamvaults for about 4 hours until the 3 of us all got exalted. It was awesome to go back to Cenarion Refuge, all of us buy our mounts and then just hang out and fly around and stuff. A bunch of passerbys would stop and look at the 3 of us on this very sexy mount.

I love it, but now I just need to get my Raven Lord to drop and I am set with my druid and his 2 mounts. I will need to grind Cenarion Circle now though for the title!

I found this as a pretty easy grind. Just got a few of my Guildies that were wanting to get this beautiful mount too. Its was me (Tree healer), Prot Pally and a Hunter. Ran Heroic Underbog, Slave Pens, and Steamvault. Everyday for about a week. We distributed out the Coilfang Armanents equally and know were all flying around on this beauty.

As many people have already said, this is an amazing mount! I got mine after 3.3 so i never noticed that it "hovered" instead of walking, and i could see why that would be annoying, but now it has a nice walking animation.

Getting this did not take too long, I just did all the CE quest in zangarmarsh and the camp in hellfire peninsula, after that i solo'd steamvaults (at level 80, as a DK) a bunch of times holding onto all of the coilfang armaments (Coilfang Armaments) that dropped and handed them in as part of the quest chain (Orders from Lady Vashj) that starts from a drop in SV. Definitely worth the time that it took to get it, and i still haven't seen any others, so that is another plus, after flying around in Dalaran, a lot of people asked how i got it, and i was reluctant to tell them cause i don't want everyone to have one...

Some people have mention that there is a price difference between this mount and the drakes, but imo this is cooler and too many people have some kind of drake or another.

I absolutely love this mount! I got it this morning after I finally buckled down and worked on the rep. I did quite a few dungeons when I leveled and did all of the D.E.A.T.A. quests in Northrend, so when I finally decided I needed to get it done, I did all of the Cenarion Expedition quests in Zangarmarsh and Blade's Edge. After I had those out of the way, I hoped on the AH and bought all of the Coilfang Armaments that were listed (this can save some time but can also be expensive). If you have the gold, I recommend it because it can save you some runs through Steamvault. After that, it only took me 5 1/2 Steamvault runs to get to exalted. I got 80 Coilfang Armaments in my 5 1/2 runs which brought me right to exalted.

Now, just a side note, I made quite a bit of gold running through Steamvault on my own. On top of the gold, massive amounts of armor dropped for me, and a stack of arcane dust on my server goes for about 50g. I recieved 3 stacks of arcane dust from my runs along with more enchanting mats, pearls, gray items that I sold to a vendor for 1g+, recipes/scrolls, primals, etc. Not to mention all of the ore and herbs that can be found in the instance.

So, this mount is wonderful and relatively easy to obtain. You can make a nice chunk of change farming for it and it is pretty uncommon for how easy it is to get. Good luck to everyone farming for it! It will go by pretty fast. Faster than the Wintersaber mount that is lol.

This mount is very easy to obtain by farming Nesingway Lackey Ears in Borean Tundra (or Boring Tuna). If you go to where Kaw the Mammoth Destroyer is, the Minion of Kaw mobs respawn very quickly and are very easy to kill. I averaged at about 300 ears per hour. I am a level 80 boomkin/tree druid and I was with a frost/arcane mage the whole time. It took us less than a week without working very hard every day. We would put in about 2-3 hours.
I also had Spirit of Sharing from Pilgrim's Bounty.
I believe the ears turn in for 150 reputation per 15 ears (165 with Spirit of Sharing or the Human ability), so if you are calculating how many ears you will need, remember to round up to the closest multiple of 15.
This mount really is magnificent. The idling fidgets, such as stretching, eating something off of the ground, ect, make it even more showy.
Even at level 80, this mount is favored. I love it.

the fastest way i grinded this mount is ears in borean tundra next to valliance keep,tried also instances run but i found it boring and a bit hard since i was alone all the time..

The reason there's no animation for the ray mount while "grounded" is because it can't actually "land"

Tell me, do you see any foot-like appendages? Or tentacles? Or anything that would hint that his animal can, indeed touch the ground? No.

So there is your answer on why your Nether Ray does not have a "grounded" animation.

This is a great little mount. She's small enough that I can fly her through doorways. Saves time on all those "give a goodie to the king" quests.

As others have stated, the animations are very lively. She actually looks and behaves like a living creature. The colors are very appealing as well. Such a pretty mount, I've had newer players ask where to get her.

The initial rep grind was painful because I started playing WoW after LK came out and was not in a guild. I also did not know you could stalk some of the drops in the AH. Admittedly, as an environmentalist, I had no problem grinding those poachers.

If you have a "big" main that can solo instances, you will save a lot of time. For one, you don't have to share the loot with 4 other players. Also, if you are in a large guild, you not only have the rep bonus, but other players may leave rep stuff in the guild bank.Also, it never hurts to ask friends and guild mates.

It shows 310% because you either purchased the Master Riding Master Riding/master-riding or you obtained a 310% mount back in the past sometime.

All mounts now scale with riding skill, so all flying mounts should appear 310% if you have that flying ability.

This is still a 280% mount when obtained.

When I first started playing WoW, I was given this advice: Kill everything you see that can be killed. Along the roads while traveling, extras during quests, whatever you can. Make it a habit so that it becomes a reflex.

This has paid off enormously over time. You'd be surprised at how quickly even copper and silver can add up. As a result, when it has come time to buy mounts or flying or whatever, the gold has been there. It's a very easy way to be prepared for those things when you're ready. So when it was time for 4,500g for fast flying, I had it.

It also gives you rep along the way (most of the time.) I got exalted with all five capitol cities very quickly and with several other factions just by taking advantage of the mobs available for killing while doing other things. Dungeons became a real plus when I was able to do those.

My point is this: I see a lot of complaining about how expensive it is to buy flying and mounts, but really, the game is set up to provide you with the means to get these things if you just do some very simple things as you play. 1600g for this mount is actually not all that much and is easy to save without doing extraordinary things.

Also: Popping an underwater breathing elixir and going to the center of the lake in Borean Tundra is a great way to easily farm Nessingwary ears for this mount. There are dozens there that you don't have to chase down or wait for, they respawn very very quickly. Find a group, float in place and pop 8 or ten, then go collect the goods. Repeat. I got 500 ears in an hour and a half doing this and was able to move that last bit to exalted with no problem. This plus running Steamvault a few times and doing the quests got me this mount pretty fast.

The gryph IS a great little mount. The drakes are showy and fun, but this hippogryph is fast and beautiful, running or flying and is an easy addition if you're after the 50 mount achievement and Albino Drake reward.

This is one of my favorite mounts. Dragons are fun and flashy but can become bulky and large. I love the size of the mount. Especially when flying through old world Azeroth and flying below the tree line, it's easy to navigate and see things. Great for flying into doorways in towns also, no need to dismount beforehand. The female worgen model fits great on this mount.

Huh? This doesn't look anything like Invincible! This is a Hippogryph, and thus have the hindquarters of a horse (arguably a stag in WoW lore), but even that part of the model doesn't look similar to Invincible's. Really, I see no resemblance at all. Are ou sure you didn't mistake this for Celestial Steed? It still is very different from Invincible's Reins, but at least they are somewhat alike.

As of patch 4.2, you can ride this in 'ground mount only' places like TB. It has a new 'jump' action when you try to fly.

if you kill things in The Steamvault the item called "coilfang armaments" will drop, it looks like a spear
they are used to turn in for rep

in order to turn them in you will have to get a quest which also drops in this dungeon as a random drop

the spears drop often and give about 80 rep per a spear, upon turn in of the quest it gives 500 rep (not including any bonus)

they are easy enough to kill @ cata level, just round them up and AOE like crazy

i think this is much better than ears in borean tundrea, and they give alright amount of silver for the dents they will do in your armor

Edit: this turn in is @ revered, I decided to solo dungeon runs for rep instead of my usual boring ear grind
drop rate of jaggal clam is very high, lots of naga in this dungeon

The entrance of this place is full of mobs, they make great rep and spear turn in
Clearing everything in the first room up to the first boss yields 912 rep, not bad if you are using a tank like me (level 14 guild)
Full clear of everything in the dungeon will give 1974 rep (these figures do not include the spears, only the rep from killing)

1st run: 16 spears
2nd run: 10 spears

if you kill the naga in The Steamvault the item called "coilfang armaments" will drop, it looks like a spear
they are used to turn in for rep

in order to turn them in you will have to get a quest which also drops in this dungeon as a random drop
you turn in the quest to Tsiel Windsinger in Cenarion Refuge.
the spears drop often and give about 80 rep per a spear, upon turn in of the quest it gives 500 rep (1 time) with no guild bonus

they are easy enough to kill @ cata level, just round them up and AOE

i think this is much better than ears in borean tundrea, and they give alright amount of silver to repair the dents in your armor

tons of near lvl 70 greens
30 jaggal clams
vendor gold from the greys
a few motes of water + life
16 spears from one run

Tip: do not forget to click the weird panel things behind the first 2 bosses (required to get to 3rd)

This one's still my favourite mount, being a little flashy but not overly so such as the Flameward hippogryff. Small and compact,able to fit through almost any door (Especially useful for that cave entrance in the Molten Front) and has very nice colours.

It suits well for a Night Elf who roleplays, as it seems to be a sort of racial flying mount for them.

Hippogryphs are now able to be used anywhere, as ground mounts as well as flying mounts, so in places such as battlegrounds. Their jump animation is so cute =P

I just got mine a couple days ago its a great mount but does anyone else notice that it jumps significantly higher than any other mount? I only have wotlk so i run around org on this and it jump super high, its not anything bad just strange.

I've noticed that since 4.2 and the addition of Flameward Hippogryph the standard hippogryph has gained a fiery sound set. I'm guessing this is just a bug as it is not intended to be on fire, but it sure sounds like it is.

This is a great mount for Horde, as it is one of only a few Hippogryphs available to them. You will certainly stand out on this in Org, I used it as my main mount for a long while. Also, if you get an item that can transform you to look like an Ally, you can troll by calling out "Ally at ...", then being there yourself, yelling "BUR!" (what Horde sees when Ally lol's). This was pretty fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it, some didn't understand. :P What I used: Faded Wizard Hat You could also use: Orb of Deception, Savory Deviate Delight, or Burgy Blackheart's Handsome Hat.

I like this mount because it doesn't have the "herky jerky" movements that a lot of the larger mounts do, and it isn't a noisy flying mount like a lot of the dragons are, as I prefer a quieter mount while doing my mining and other profession work. You don't see very many of them either, unlike the Wind Riders, which look great but are everywhere due to the ease in obtaining them. This is my main "work" mount.

went over to buy the bird today and noted these things.

1. It REQUIRES Exalted to be able to buy it from the vendor.

2. at friendly, its price (although not purchasable at this point) is 1700 gold, and so on.

3. since it is cataclysm the rep grind should be fairly easy, being able to 1 shot npc's and all.

With account-wide mounts, it can be used at level 20. You can't fly, obviously, but it functions as a ground mount.

I ride on this guy on my druid as a mount of choice, I know swift flight form is better when I need to fly off in a pinch... but the griffon is such a nice mount, it would be a shame not to do so

On my goblin it cost 1400 gold.

Reminder that collecting spears will no longer work for gaining rep. However, farming dungeons is a good way to collect reputation. I recommend the farming after completing quests in Hellfire Peninsula, Terokkar Forest, Blade's Edge Mountains and Borean Tundra. I personally liked farming Steamvaults since I could collect Sporeggar reputation as well.

If you wish to farm mobs in Borean Tundra. The quest Can't Get Ear-nough... for the Cenarion Expedition is a repeatable daily. The Nesingwary Lackey Ear has a fairly good drop rate. I personally liked farming them off Loot Crazed Diver; they respawn quite fast.

This is the math and information you will need if you want to grind out The Underbog for your Hypogryph. (I've done the math for you! YAY!) Good Luck and Happy Farming!

For grinding Underbog for the Cenarion Expedition reputation you will encounter 110 mobs (give or take 2 or 3 creatures that i may of miss counted)

NOTE THIS DATA IS FOR NORMAL DIFFICULTY

Which are worth 7 reputation points each, There are 4 bosses worth 70 reputation points each, this added up equates to

Mobs Rep: 770
Boss Rep: 280

Total = 1050 which is roughly what I obtained from one full run of it (I gained 1043 reputation with Cenarion Expedition in one full run without missing one mob).

Given that you start from 0 reputation at Neutral you will need to obtain 42000 reputation points with the Cenarion Expedition, roughly equated given that you obtain 1050 reputation per one FULL run, you will need to run The Underbog 40 times to achieve exalted with the Cenarion Expedition

NOTE THIS DATA IS FOR HEROIC DIFFICULTY

Mobs in Heroic difficulty are worth 15 reputation each also being 110 mobs, and bosses are worth 250 reputation also being 4 bosses

Mobs Rep: 1650
Boss Rep: 1000

Total = 2650 Which again is roughly what I obtained through ONE run of the instance (2653 reputation earnt)

Given again that you need 42000 reputation from Neutral you will need to run The Underbog 15 times in Heroic difficulty (Providing you obtain 2650 reputation each run) to Achieve Exalted.

EDIT: What I would suggest is killing all the mobs other than bosses and resetting the instance and re-doing then on the last run of the day kill the bosses. (On heroic difficulty)

When doing the Instance make sure to loot every Sanguine Hibiscus as when you finish the instance you can hand these in to T'shu at the start of the instance for a hefty Reputation gain towards the Sporeggar! (750 reputation) Make sure not to just delete or vendor the left over Sanguine Hibiscus as they are NOT bind on equip and can be sold in the Auction House!
