u c that "Reins of the Grand Ice Mammoth" is a mount that can be obtained when u get exalted with "The Sons of Hodir". And Only the HORDE can ride it..

The reason that I keep convincing myself with .. is that it is still Beta

Hodir was one of the Sons of Odin and Nifelheim is an equivalent of Hell in Norse paganism (though a cold one). Also Nifelheim is inhabited by Hrimtursar who is a breed of Icegiants. These icegiants were created by the sweat from the giant Ymer (Ymiron anyone?).

To my understanding inorder to grind rep with these guys you must start an extremely long, easy and fun questchain involving well over 20 quests. It begins with They Took Our Men! from Gretchen Fizzlespark in K3. Most of the quests take place in Brunnhildar Village and the Forlorn Mines.

16 quests later after ending Making a Harness, you'll begin Astrid's Questchain with The Last of Her Kind. A few quests later you will be required to talk to Thorim. Thorim will hand out Sibling Rivalry after completing The Drakkensryd.

While doing Sibling Rivalry, Slag Covered Metal will drop from one of the Stormforged Giants. The Metal will lead to:

1.) The Refiner's Fire
2.) A Spark of Hope

Turn in A Spark of Hope and you will become Honored with The Sons of Hodir.

As it stands now on the Beta server, this will be VERY SLOW rep grind.

Doing all the normal quests will only barely get you friendly.

There are only 3 daily quests ive found, and they only give you 250 rep each, so it will take approximately *50* days of dailys to get exalted.

If the list of daily quests here is correct and there are 4, then it will still take about *35-40* days.

Hot and Cold - 250 rep, available after completing Forging an Alliance
Blowing Hodir's Horn - 250 rep, available after completing In Memoriam
Polishing the Helm - 250 rep, available after completing Forging a Head
Spy Hunter - 350 rep, available after Honored
Thrusting Hodir's Spear - 500 rep, available after Honored and completing Raising Hodir's Spear
Feeding Arngrim - 350 rep, available after Revered

There is also a repeatable quest that gives 350 rep that opens after you find an Everfrost Chip (a lootable object around the area, like a food crate). The first one you find starts Everfrost and any subsequent chips you find after turning in the first you just hand in to Calder for Remember Everfrost!. Currently there is no cap to how many you can turn in per day, just limited to how many you can find (they are fairly rare... and small).

3.0.8 PTR Update - Relic of Ulduar are no longer soulbound and can be turned in in groups of 10 for 250 rep.

This is going to be an important faction, if it's not already. The shoulder enchants alone are goign to be highly valued and the mammoths will basically be, for the time being, to Wrath as the Netherwing drakes were to BC.

Ye but its pretty sad that its such a minor upgrade compared to the aldor/scryer ones. Honored is just the same as exalted aldor. And getting exalted with these guys will take a while.

On Day 1, you can get to 1525/12000 Honored with this faction, assuming you find a single Everfrost Chip, otherwise you won't make it to Honored on the first day and miss that day's dailies.

This means the fastest you can achieve Revered by doing all the dailies (without chips) would be 9 days, including the first day.

Exalted would take ~22 days.

The good news is that you can trade gold for the lesser inscriptions (equivalent to Aldor/Scryer exalted versions) on the first day.

Above is incorrect, if you find one Everfrost chip, and do all the quests you'll be at 1650/6000 Friendly on the first day. you'd need a total of 14 Everfrost chips in order to hit Honored on the first day.

Which doesn't have vendors. The primary benefit of the dalaran mount. So all you're left with is the shoulder enchants. Equally useful head enchants are acquired through other reps that use the much better implemented Championing system. Still no real justifcation or sense has been made for this silly Sunwell-esque grind of old.

None of the others give the best shoulder enchants available to non-inscribers, and they only give one non-resist head enchant per faction, where this gives one for every role.

None of the others give mounts either.

I don't think blizzard wanted this to be a faction you could hit exalted with in a few days by instance grinding.

I love the guys who name the quests at Blizzard. These are prime examples of how incredibly hilarious they can be. I wonder how long they sit around and try to come up with flavour text and quest names. I wish I could sit in on those meetings.

Is anyone else laughing at all the inanimate quest givers? I come back to town, gotta go talk to the spear, the helm, the horn and the anvil. Only the wolf is actually alive.

What would I do if I wasn't very intuitive? If I thought the anvil just wanted me to burn things? Who're they going to believe, me or the magic anvil?

I must have really messed something up... I did all of the quests to open up the first 3 dailies and im nowhere near Honored after 3 days of dailies and finding 4 Everfrost chips.

My buddy was able to get honored first day without a problem.

Anyone have a clue to what I could have missed? I'm going through the quest list on here and it looks like i've done them all. :\

The other (and IMO more likely) possibility is that your friend was a Human. Humans have a natural diplomacy advantage, and gain reputation far more quickly. The first pair of quests starts them at Friendly, not Neutral, and the other quests get them within a stone's throw of Honored, if not well into it.

Actually I'm only partially wrong and so are you. Eddan and Hrafnagaldr Óðins are the two books where most nordic mythology is taken from. These give two different stories very often and in the case of Helheim and Nifelheim this is the case. The most accepted picture is that Hel was bad. For example: Hel is included in the nordic word "Helvete" (swedish spelling) wich litteraly means "Hel's curse". However she is to stand on the bad guys side in Ragnarok (Armageddon) according to both stories.

The version I took from for the first post was something like this:
After Loki gave birth to Hel, Thor threw her down in Nifelheim ("the mistcovered world") and there she rules over the dead in nine realms of death ("Helheim"). Helheim is more or less the opposite of Valhalla since Valhalla was where those who died in battle went but Hel was for those who died of old age, illness etc.

Eddan and Hrafnagaldr Óðins are also the only two books that actually mention Nifelheim at all and since they say different things about it (for instance one of them places Helheim in it and the other one doesn't), it is hard to say wich one is what the people in that time thought.

Well, don't want to ramble on but please get all facts straight before saying Im wrong.

Can someone fix the text up top? The quest chain 'They Took Our Men!' does NOT have anything to do with Sons of Hodir. That's for the big-blue-woman village, not Sons of Hodir.

The Sons of Hodir rep begins from the Slag Covered Metal (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=41556) which drops from the Stormforged Iron Giants (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=29375).

You only can loot Slag Covered Metal when you got Mending Fences quest, I try kill like 50 elite without the quest no chance of Slag Covered Metal until I got Mending Fences quest

I just did all the pre-requesites to begin my Hodir rep.
I had 0 quests done in Storm Peaks.
Once I had finished everything including the Hodir dailies and the HoL quests, I was 500 gold richer, was 30% through Friendly (also handed 1 shard in) and had 43 quests completed in Storm Peaks.
It also took me 4 hours in total, this would've been faster had I not been a Holy Priest and if I had an epic flyer.

Just an interesting thing to note, it seems that nearly all of the dailies for this faction involve your character being compelled to do things because it decides to. Just a nice change I suppose from having every quest objective involve something along the lines of "X person wants you to do X task".

You guys honestly think there's sexual innuendo behind these quest names?

'Bareback' simply means riding without a saddle. The quest involves riding a bear bareback, hence the name. I guarantee you the folks at blizz weren't thinking about unprotected gay anal sex when they named the quest Going Bearback. It's just a pun, nothing more.

Same basically applies to the other names. You can find bogus sexual crap in pretty much any phrase you want if you have an immature enough mind.

The next patch has a new repeatable quest to turn in 10 relics of uludar for 250 sons of hodir rep. Additionally, there not soulbound anymore.

Should make this rep grind much much easier.

So next patch this faction becomes the easiest to grind to exalted. Everfrost chips will no longer play a huge part in the grind. Kind of disappointing.

In 3.0.8 Relic of Ulduar will be able to be turned in ten at a time for 250 rep. It is repeatable and I believe is available from neutral to exalted. On top of the turn in quest the Relic's are no long soulbound. I would stock up for either rep or a plethora of gold from your local auction house.

The mob with the highest and most accurate drop rate are Brittle Revenant. They drop grey crystals as well as crystalized earth and they have a very quick spawn rate, rarely do I encounter a situation where there are none alive. If you have ming you are set, each one will drop Geodesic Fragments which vendor for 22s each.

Rather dissapointing rewards for the hardest faction in WotLK.
Doing dailies every day, it would still take about a month to hit exalted. You cannot champion this faction. Even tough you now can turn in those relics, farming it will still be hard and you could've sold them.

For:
-Respectively 10 AP/5 crit, 6 SP/2mp5, 5 dodge/5 defense, 6 SP/5 crit improvement in shoulder enchant from honored.
-A mammoth with passenger seats, half the price of the Traveler's tundra mammoth, but without vendors.
-No epic rewards, while the easy, championnable factions do have those.

It may be the Netherwing of WotLK, it can't beat the dragons >.>

Of course they cant help but make everything easier, so they've decided to implement a rep-turn in in stacks of 10...

So I'd say its more like a Netherwing/Skyguard combo without the kill-foar-rep that skyguard had.

It removes the prestige from the grand ice mammoth...but what are we going to do. For the raider, the shoulder enchants are important unless you're a scribe. So...yeah. Its good in one way, bad in another.

This is currently on PTR 3.0.8. Will be implemented next patch.

It will require 10 Relics per turn in at 250 rep a pop and is repeatable.

I don't want to be a jerk here, but it irks me that this lurv guy gets rated way up, and shin1ng gets rated way down, when they both said the same things and lurv just added more detail. The only thing lurv disagrees with shin1ng about is the analogy between nordic niflheim and christian hell, which IMO is a Subjective Matter.

I mean, look at this:

Here are the quests needed to open up The Sons of Hodir Faction.

They Took Our Men! (Starts from Gretchen in K3) - Kill mobs around 40,70 for Cold Iron Keys, use keys to open cages and free Goblins.
Leave No Goblin Behind - Enter the mine at 42,70 and Lok'lira will be on the left.
The Crone's Bargain - Kill Overseer Syra for quest item. Syra pats around the mine a bit.
Mildred the Cruel - Go up the stairs and speak to Mildred.
Discipline - Use Disciplining Rod on 6 Exhausted Vrykul inside the mine, sometimes they attack back.
Examples to be Made - Slay Garhal, who is just behind Mildred
A Certain Prisoner - Go down the stairs and talk to Lok'lira again.
A Change of Scenery - Go through the mine and exit on the other side. Lok'lira will be standing on the right.
Is That Your Goblin? - Talk to Agnetta (48,69) and kill.
The Hyldsmeet - Talk to Lok'lira and give proposal.
Taking on All Challengers - Go around where people are dueling and talk to the ones that are standing alone, then kill. Opens up Daily.
You'll Need a Bear - Talk to Brijana at 53,65.
Going Bearback - Mount the bear next to her and shoot flaming arrows at the Worgs and Giants.
Cold Hearted - Fly to 64,59, find drakes attached to chains and mount them. Use the frostbolt to unfreeze 3 prisoners, and head back to Brunnhildar Village. Rinse and repeat till done.
Deemed Worthy - Talk to Astrid at 49,71.
Making a Harness - Fly to the cliffs aorund 48,75 and kill Yetis for the 3 Hides.
The Last of Her Kind - Enter cave at 55,63 and Mount the bear at the back of the cave.
The Slithering Darkness - Go into cave (55,63) and kill 8 Jormungars
The Warm-Up - Use Reins of the Icemaw Matriarch, mount it, and kill Kirgaraak (50,67).
Into the Pit - Use the Reins and kill 6 bears inside the pit. Opens up Daily.
Prepare for Glory - Speak to Lok'lira again (48,69).
Lok'lira's Parting Gift - Speak to Gretta (50,65).
The Drakkensryd - Arguably one of the funnest quests in Wow. The drake will take you to the Temple of Storms. Once there, use the Harpoon given on other drakes flying. You will then grapple onto that drake and you must kill the rider. Once done, use the Harpoon on a Column Ornament to hook onto the temple. Turn in quest at Thorim.
Sibling Rivalry - Listen to Thorim's story.

Turn in these two quests back to Thorim and you will now be Neutral with The Sons of Hodir.

I would like to point out that the quest Mending Fences and The Refiner's Fire ( the last parts of the quest chain that gets u hodir rep, give you 22000 rep, to go from hostile to neutral.

As a human this gives you 24200 rep each, thats 4800 extra rep towards this faction.

I looked into this after i got honored on my human palidan on my first day of quest, and I didnt do any quest past unlocking the dailies. But on my draenei shaman i didnt even end up 1/3rd the way thru friendly by that point. That is a big jump towards exalted I would say.

At friendly the anvil, horn, and helm dailes are the only ones availbe to do each giving 250 rep each
4275 rep was needed for my shaman after unlocking the 3 dailies and doing them.
3-5 days of dailies that I didnt have to do on my paladin, Ill take that tyvm

Raising this rep is not too bad. With a good eye, you should be able to find around 8 or 9 everfrost chips in an hour (around 3,000 rep), provided it's not too busy. Doing the dailies at exalted provides around 2,000, and in doing them you will likely come across everfrost chips, and 10+ relics of ulduar. With minimal effort in doing the dailies you should make 3,000 a day. If you grind rep, you can become exalted in around 5 days without killing yourself.

I dont know about anyone else but paganism i find offensive, this term is used to describe religions ( and i dont use this term loosely) that are not the four or five main, or largest. The term was used as the word barbarian is, with negative conotation. Barbarian comming from bar bar or the sound of germanic tribal languages which the romans could not understand.

Niflheim may have been the realm of cold and mists, in opposition to Muspelheim, but it IS where the daughter of Loki,. Hel, set up her base of operations. It is where the un-valorous dead go. Sounds a little like Hell to me!

According to Norse myth, the beginning of life was fire and ice, with the existence of only two worlds: Muspelheim and Niflheim. When the warm air of Muspelheim hit the cold ice of Niflheim, the jötunn Ymir and the icy cow Audhumla were created. Ymir's foot bred a son and a man and a woman emerged from his armpits, making Ymir the progenitor of the Jotun. Whilst Ymir slept, the intense heat from Muspelheim made him sweat, and he sweated out Surtr, a jötunn of fire. Later Ymir woke and drank Audhumbla's milk. Whilst he drank, the cow Audhumbla licked on a salt stone. On the first day after this a man's hair appeared on the stone, on the second day a head and on the third day an entire man emerged from the stone. When the gods felt strong enough they killed Ymir. His blood flooded the world and drowned all of the jötunn, except two. But jötnar grew again in numbers and soon there were as many as before Ymir's death. Then the gods created seven more worlds using Ymir's flesh for dirt, his blood for the Oceans, rivers and lakes, his bones for stone, his brain as the clouds, his skull for the heaven. Taking advantage of this weakness, Loki made a projectile of mistletoe and tricked Höðr, Odin's blind son and Baldr's brother, into using it to kill Baldr. Hel said she would revive him if everyone in the nine worlds wept. A female jötunn - Thokk, who may have been Loki in shape-shifted form - did not weep.) After that she turns her attention to the future.

I've completed every quest in K3, and every quest in Brunnhildar, but I never got any quest to talk to Thorim. I might of just gotten the Slag Covered Metal and just deleted it or something, but now I can't gain Sons of Hodir rep. I tried grinding the elite giants that are supposed to drop it when your questing, and killed about 30 of them, but no luck. Anyone know what I should do?

As a matter of fact, THIS is wrong. Helheim, the abode of Hel, Loki's monstrous daughter, is located in Niflheim.

This faction and the quests leading to this faction are the dumbest ive seen in the game so far.. wow. is that the best blizzard can do? force us all to do these retarded lame quests for a bunch of fugly giant dwarfs standing on some ice.. wheres the character in all of this? gj on the ebon and argent faction though (flying zepplins to get quests from, bomb runs, multiple npcs.. king jokkum looks exactly the same as any other sons scrub) icecrown dailies are what i want to see more of from blizz plz not this garbage. should definitly switch the shoulder enchants over somewhere else. im sure there is not one person that likes half of these dailies we are forced to do.

This is definitly the easiest "non-dungeonable" faction in the entire game, you have several quest chains, over half a dozen dailys, a repeatable turn in quest and another repeatable quest:).

And still I here so many complain that this is impossible to grind rep with:)

The purpose of the developers making cultural references in location names and quest titles isn't so much to provide lulz to basement dwellers (though it certainly does serve that purpose) as it is a nod to the thing which they are referencing. So, anytime a reference is made, there's likely something related to that which bears a particular name.

That is, just because "Dun Niflheim" may sound vaguely like "Dunder Mifflin", it doesn't mean that's the correct reference. Stop and think: does the place have anything remotely in common with "The Office"? No? Then it's likely not a reference.

Just for fun a checked the at war button and killed Lillehoff. Turned out that there's no reputation loss when killing him. So I guess you can kill them all and you won't lose any reputation.

Now that Relics of Uldaur can be turned in much like Signets/Rings for Aldor/Scryer this rep is even more of a bleeze than they were back in BC.

A non-human can reach honored on day one by turning in ~180 Relics (at the going price of 1.5-2g each on my server, about 315 gold which you'll make during the questing process to unlock the rep anyway).

So...About 2 hours of work questing you can get the honored version of the enchants.

Dun Niffelem is where you can get many dailies that boost your reputation. If you do all the dailies you get around 78 gold.

Note: New daily quests become available as your reputation gets higher with the Sons of Hodir.

I had done the quest line getting me to friendly some time in November and never went back again.

Today, I realized I had all the WotLK factions at exalted except for Sons of Hodir, Taunka, and Hand of Vengance. (Taunka and HoV aren't even possible to get to exalted.) I did some research and discovered it would take 22 days of boring, repetitive, sexual dailies to get exalted. EFF THAT! I took me around 1500 Relics of Ulduar to get from Friendly to Exalted. I purchased them on the AH for 1g each (in stacks of 200) for 1500g.

I can earn 1500g in a day or two with minimal effort. MUCH better than doing dailies for 22 days.

IMO it is better to just buy or farm relics than do quests for 22 days. 1500g in all honesty is not that much gold, i was reluctant to spend that much on a faction i will never use (Main is a scribe) but i am glad i did it.

Just thought I'd let the more impatient people know there is a better way of doing this grind than dailies.

Sibiling Rivalry is not the quest for killing Fjorn...it is simply a quest to listen to Thorim's story. The quest to kill Fjorn and his giants is Mending Fences While doing this quest thats when u will get Slag Covered Metal. Doing this quest will make you Neutral w/ Sons of Hodir.

TO ANSWER THE FRUSTRATING QUESTION: "WHY AM I HATED WITH SONS OF HODIR AFTER DOING THIS QUESTLINE?"

I completed all the quests just like you're supposed to and upon the last quest turnout, I was rewarded with Hated reputation with Sons of Hodir. It wasn't until then I realized that in my bag from the last quest an item dropped that began a quest called The Refiners Fire. It's a blue object, click it, and you will receive the missing 22,000 reputation to give you Neutral rep, and opening up more quests so that you can become friendly. Good luck!

Not entirely correct. the word "Helvete" coms from the concept of "Hel-vitet", the punichment the norse death goddess gave to those who had not died in battle or bye other meens had come to "asgård"(the norse similarity to heaven). the english word hell comes from the norse word "hel" (the last "L" was added to make the word sound more english) which was the name of Lokes daughter, she was half dead half alive which means half her face was like a beuteful woman and the other half as a corpse.

(This post is just to correct a minor fault and give a bit more information about the word and as he said "not to prove someone wrong")

As of patch 3.2.2 the daily dungeon quest now has the option to award you Sons of Hodir reputation. The Sons of Hodir Commendation Badge grants you 500 reputation. A nice addition to what can be a tedious (and/or expensive) grind to exalted.

I would see this move more akin to the BoA Tome of Cold Weather Flight. Once you finish the rep grind, you'll be able to buy enchants for all of your characters without having to re-grind the rep.

As a little trivia, in Norway there is actually a glacial region named Jotunheimen (eng. The Jotunheim), obviously named after that Norse locale. "Heim" (alt. "Hjem") literally means "Home".

And Jotun means a giant, as far as i know. Heim, yeah, it's a germanic language same as English (though English had lost vast majority of it's words to French) so you can see the similarity in Heim and Home. Thus "home of giants".

Blizzard seems to have a fascination with Norse culture.

Who wouldn't? It's so f'ing badass!

And i'm still waiting for my piece of lore based on Slavic cultures, with the end bosses being Baba Jaga and Putin.

If you get to friendly with the Sons but can't get any quests, go back to Thorim and grab Forging an Alliance. I stopped working on the Sons for a number of months but had friendly so I thought I did the whole chain. Turns out I missed one step.

As of patch 3.3 when you hand in the quests Mending Fences and A Spark of Hope it will bump you to Honored with SoH instead of the pre-3.3 status of Friendly. (I am a Belf so Humans can expect a bit more) Also the Hodir dailies now reward 455 rep instead of the 250 previously.

With 3.3 out, just finishing the preliminary quests from Thorim that used to put you from Hated to Neutral with Sons of Hodir, will bring you from Hated to Honored because they both give 28600 rep with the extra 30% this patch brings.

I've done every daily available to me at level 79, and I'm 7k rep off from Exalted because I also turned in 230 Relics of Ulduar. It's very easy to get Exalted in one day, even before level 80, and I plan to do it just for bragging rights. If you can get a group for HoL and finish off the quest from that you'll get another 650 rep, which is 1 less stack of 10 Relics of Ulduar that you need to turn in.

This rep grind is now a joke.

The thing that annoys me is why Blizzard wrote in 3.3. patchnotes that reputation speded up by 30%? That's not true, if you gain 650 reputation instead of 250 for Relic of Ulduar that is 160%. For the other daily quests now we gain more reputation than extra 30%, 455 instead of 250 is 82% but not 30%.

It might be helpful to note that, as you go through this long quest chain, you never notice any change in rep with sons of hodir and, at one particular juncture, a quest gives you the idea that you are actually going to have to do something that would result in you being hated by sons of hodir, as opposed to gaining rep with them. I don't remember what quest it was, but I remember when I got it I was really starting to doubt that I was doing the right quests to get me the good rep that I wanted with sons of hodir. So the point here is... fear not... this quest chain will not only get you to where you want to be, (gaining positive rep with sons of hodir), but when you finally turn in the last quest that leads to the dailies, you'll end up going from a tad bit hated to half way through honored.

Hard? You weren't part of Vanilla WoW I take it. This is nothing. Absolutely nothing lol. You get everything handed to you. All you have to do is fly around a get it. Hard? No.

Because there was no grinding required for MC gear; but not only the gear, but the rep to buy the patterns from the vendors, which also required the crafting items: Lava Core: Reagent for (25)

That was fun :) The number of players that were playing during that time has grown to few and far between.

Now you just put a tabard on, spam random heroics and you're good to go - or buy stuff from the AH.

I used all comments on here as guide to get exalted.

I managed to get from 0 - Exalted in 2.5 hours.

How I did it:

1. Run through the quest chain as posted earlier. That got me to Honored.
2. Turn in Relics of Ulduar at the Quartermaster. I had about 60 and bought another 350 on AH for about 300g
These turn ins gives 650 Rep for every ten. Got me to exalted in about 15 minutes.

Unlike the other phased quest chains (like ebon blade), you don't have to redo all of the quests to unlock the sons of hodir dailies again after you faction change. You will need to get the flight path again, though

The primary purpose of this faction is to provide PvE shoulder enchants. At honored, you can buy one of four enchants for 60g, and at exalted, you can get an upgrade for it for 80g. For whatever reason, the exalted ones are BoA while the honored ones are BoP - so, if you have another 80 alt, only one of your toons has to reach exalted to be able to use the enchants.

In addition, they sell the Reins of the Ice Mammoth (800g at Exalted) and Reins of the Great Ice Mammoth (8000g at Exalted). They also sell patterns for a mining bag, 22 slot bag, and a +16 critical strike rating gem. Like most factions, they offer a few blues that may be upgrades for pre-raiders.

This is not an extremely tough faction to reach exalted with. Doing the dailies will give you a fair chunk of reputation, and they are fairly easy. In addition, you can run Ulduar/HoL/HoS, or kill mobs in the Storm Peaks (such as the ones you have to kill for the dailies) to get Relics of Ulduar, which are redeemable in stacks of ten for extra reputation at the quartermaster. So, effectively, a moderately wealthy player could get exalted with almost no effort by buying relics off of the AH.

Not sure of what patch enabled this, but as of now rep grinding for this faction is no longer necessary for those of us who want the glyph for alts and already have a toon that's grinded the Hodir honor. The glyphs are now bind on account.

This did not open up all of the daily quests. I followed these great instructions to get to Honoured with The Sons of Hodir, and now I'm at revered having done some dailies and hand-ins. The only daily quests I can get from the faction are currently;

Spy Hunter
Thrusting Hodir's Spear
Feeding Arngrim (available when I got to revered)

Here's how I went about getting the rest of the dailies:

After speaking to Thorim again and picking up the quest Forging an Alliance, I have returned to Dun Niffelem to find that King Jokkum now has a new quest for me - You Can't Miss Him. Following this chain returned the Anvil, opening up Hot and Cold. Returning the Armour to Thorim to complete the quest (and going no further) then opened up In Memoriam, which in turn leads to Blowing Hodir's Horn (though strangely I needed to move out of Dun Niffelem and return for the horn to appear).

Finally, speaking to Njormeld for the quest Forging a Head and completing it (along with the very short followup) will open up Polishing the Helm.

That should now be all of the dailies open for you...

From what i can tell, in 3.3.5 the rep rewards have been inceased by alot, doing thorim's quests leading up to and including terrance of the makers, and one of each of the dailies (u get the anvil, helm, frostwolf, and spear).
i am currently at 11237/12000 into revered.

After you finish http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?quest=12956 go to the nearest AH and buy 250 or so Relic of Uldar (It'll probably cost you about 150-200g) then go back and turn them in.

HELP. I am "at war" with the sons of hodir and the check mark box is grayed out so I cannot uncheck it. How do i raise my rep with them. I bought 10 badges of commendation and it raised my Hatred Number from something like 7000/36000 to 9000/36000 I dont understand. thanks in advance.

I am a vanilla player, and I VASTLY prefer how rep gains are now compared to what they were. There was nothing challenging, interesting or fun rep grinding vanilla rep back then - it was souless, dull, and incredibly annoying.

Especially those idiotic reps that "died" at a certain amount of rep like argent dawn (which stopped giving rep from scholo/strath at revered and you had to farm scourgestones)

i just finished the chain and got 30K rep with them. but i was already neutral from buying insignias. turns out, even if you do reach neutral from insignias, you still need to do the chain in order to buy rewards and hand in those relics..

At revered, got all the way there from finishing the quest line, I started turning in Relics of Ulduar to exalted. It seems the current rate (aside from the first turn in) is 10 relics for 358 Reputation.

Help please... feel like that was a complete waste of time & I want the rep. I have opened up a ticket with Blizzard, but thought the wise people of WoWhead might know what is happening as well?

Cataclysm has completely trivialized this rep grind.

Sons of Hodir Commendation Badge can be purchased from Magistrix Vesara in Dalaran for 16 JP. Without the JP guild perk, Cata heroic bosses drop 70 JP, and of course, there are several of those bosses in each instance. On top of this, For Great Justice will increase your JP gains by 7 per boss, which is half of a commendation badge right there. She sells rep badges for the other main Wrath factions as well; getting Exalted with all of them should take less than a day.

If you're short a tiny bit of reputation before hitting Exalted, or you just don't feel like running any more dungeons, Relic of Ulduar is usually on the Auction House in limited quantities, but isn't cost-effective.

During Cataclysm all you have to do is finish the quest chain mentioned with Mending Fences and A Spark of Hope (you can stop after this).

This'll get you Revered in one go. After that buy 36x Sons of Hodir Commendation bag for 16 Justice Points each.

You're now exalted.

If you're level 85 and you haven't done the Halls of Lightning quests yet, I highly recommend doing them to build rep. When I started working on the Sons of Hodir, I was already halfway through revered just from completing the quests in the Storm Peaks. I'm not sure how many times I did the dailies to get there, but I don't think it was more than three times. Yesterday, I had 14000 of the 21000 rep to be exalted. I did all of the dailies once first, then I ran Halls of Lightning, did the quests associated with it and turned in the Relic of Ulduar I had gotten (which ended up being over 150) and got the 7000 rep I needed. The nice thing about running HoL is that the relics dropped frequently, and the mobs who dropped them always had more than one. I'd say about 60% dropped and they usually had 3 or 4 (with some exceptions, obviously).

If your like me and you bought the rep items from Dalaran, reached exalted and ended up wondering why you couldn't access the quartermaster here's what you do.

Start with They Took Our Men!, began by Gretchen Fizzlespark in K3 within The Storm Peaks

Follow the chain (takes about 40mins at 85)
You'll end up with Forging an Alliance/forging-an-alliance

From there you can purchase your new mammoth for 700g

Then you can choose to finish the chain but there's really no need too.

Anyone still grinding rep with these for the ice mammoth and/or the 3-seater version, you can buy the rep with justice point from somewhere in dalaran, this is of course after you have done the quests to become neutral. I cannot promise that these stil exist as I did it a while ago now but it's worth a look to save you a lot of time and effort (as well as days).

I didn't even have these guys on my Rep menu. I went and bought a token and boom, hated. I would say it took me maybe 100 tokens to get to a few points from revered. Man that's a lot of JP's. It's only going to take 588 JP's from revered to exalted. Take that into account as you grind justice.

This is a rather easy reputation to gain.

It takes about an hour of questing to get to honoured. from there, i just cashed in relics of ulduar. they cost me about 450 gold to get on the action house, and i even had over 100 left over. there also rather common on the action house so it shouldn't be too hard to get your hands on some.

other than that, the mammoth will also grant a achievement if bought, it can be purchased off Lillehoff at reverted.

Basically just do the quests as listed in the other comments, starting with "they took our men" from Gretchen Fizzlespark in K3, As of 4.3.4 once you complete the line, you are awarded Revered standing, not sure when they changed it, but thats how it is as of this posting.

I then went back to Dalaran, and bought commendations from one of the 5 legacy justice vendors, can't remember which one, but, at 16 justice points a pop, each comm gives 520 rep, and being human I get a 10% increase (to 572rep per comm) so I spent 624 justice points for 39 total comms to put me at 999/1000 exalted.

@ 85 thats like running a couple heroics.

All in all I spent about 2 hours to go from no contact to exalted.

Be VERY careful with the commendation badges... I had tons of JP that I needed to dump, so I went for commendation badges for several factions. Not looking too closely, I started adding rep for this faction... only to find that it increased my Hated rep!

So is it true that one HAS to be Neutral w/any faction before rep goes positive?

Just a little update the quest The Refiner's Oil now grants 31460 Reputation combine with the original quest chain you get instant revered, than after that it's an easy climb to exalted especially if you buy your up. It cost me about 700g in relics at the AH on my server to get exalted and the entire adventure from start to finished took me 40 minutes. Can anyone say Mammoth? =D

Its easy now if you have some justice points lying around, just complete the quest chain starting with They Took Our Men! and after completing it just go to dalaran and visit one of your old justice point vendors they sell badges that give 520 rep for 16 justice points.

Neutral to exalted: 81x Sons of Hodir Commendation Badge (no guild bonus) 1296 jp
Neutral to exalted: 77x Sons of Hodir Commendation Badge (lesser guild bonus 5%) 1232 jp
Neutral to exalted: 74x Sons of Hodir Commendation Badge (better guild bonus 10%) 1184 jp

For humans:
Neutral to exalted: 71x Sons of Hodir Commendation Badge (lesser guild bonus + human racial 15%) 1136 jp
Neutral to exalted: 68x Sons of Hodir Commendation Badge (better guild bonus + human racial 20%) 1088 jp

This should tell you how many commendations you need and how many justice points it takes to buy those.

A Comprehensive Guide for someone doing this now (patch 5.2)

I was unknown to the Sons of Hodir before beginning, as advised by many posts here I farmed a few justice at 90 and started buying commendations. I popped a couple of them and noticed I was Hated. So I set out to reach neutral by the following means.

As is stated below you need to take the quest They Took Our Men from K3 in southern Stormpeaks. By taking this chain all the way to the end you will unlock a further quest chain beginning with The Last of Her Kind (from the NPC you return the final prequest to) which you must also take to the end.

Please note the final quest Mending Fences asks you to obtain a boulder and this is no longer necessary due to big dps at 90. This should be combined with the quest Refiner's Fire which is started from an item dropped by the fire elementals conveniently placed around the Stormforged Iron Giants needed for Mending Fences. This requires you to kill 10 more of these elementals and turn the quest in to the forge behind Fjorn (also for Mending Fences).

This will result in you having Mending Fences and A Spark of Hope to hand in to Thorim. Each of these quests will grant you 31460 rep with the +10% guild perk, bringing you to a cool 80 rep short of revered from 0/36,000 Hated. This means only 37 commendations (592 Justice Points) are needed, again with the +10% guild perk, in order to reach exalted.

I hope this helps someone as I would have been grateful for this comprehensively and in one place.

Post edit: it is, of course, possible to do this all through the commendations - at a cost of 2352 Justice Points (0/36000 hated to 84/999 revered) as always with the +10% rep guild perk.

By just doing the required quests that opens up Sons of Hodir as a friendly faction (Mending Fences and A Spark of Hope), I hit revered, with the guild perk as my only rep boost.

talk to them at K3 and trying to start questline to begin your journey to open Sons of Hodir?

(he's in the dalaran sewers!, next to exit pipe) and he gives you Luxurious Getaway!/luxurious-getaway
(which takes you to K3)

UPDATE ON SONS OF HODIR.

This is the newest because i have done finished questing them:
Relic of ulduar give 365 rep.
The speer hanging in the air, u use to the dragons give 500
The frozen hodir on top the highest top gives 500
The hodir helmet that needs oli from bearby cave give 485 or 510
The wolf on the ground that u use to find spys with also give 485 eller 510
The big chest on one of the shelfes, where u need to kille monster at the lake, take them to the anvil, and then back, also gives 485 or 510.
Hope all make it, i went from hated to exalted in 50 hours ( need to Work)
And the fist quest where you meet Thorim at the highest Tower ever built gives you 32.000 rep,and the NeXT from NeXT quest gives the same, then you are more than honored eith them .
The have the wooly ice mamoths
The smal one kst 800 but the big one kst 8000g.

As a level 90 Paladin I managed to get this reputation from unlocked to exalted in an hour and a half. I completed all the quests, which got me to revered and then went to the auction house to buy the Ulduar Relics. I used around 450 relics and brought my way to Exalted.

Got the two mounts, but didn't realise until after I had brought the mount that it did not include Gnimo and Na, so wasted 8k and then had to buy the travellers mount regardless - bad times!

If you didn't bother to read any of the guides and just thought that you'd get neutral by finishing sibling rivalry then here's a heads up. In addition to that you also have to do The Refiner's Fire/the-refiners-fire in order to get to neutral/honored. After I finished that quest chain I went up to honored.

Quests:The quest chain They Took Our Men!, began by Gretchen Fizzlespark in K3 within The Storm Peaks, begins the path of reputation for the Sons of Hodir. It will take about an hour or so of questing to reach Neutral and Sibling Rivalry. You can then get to about Honored or so from dungeon and non-daily quests by Dun Niffelem.

Dailies: There are a maximum of six dailies with the Sons of Hodir. More dailies become available as reputation increases. They are: Hot and Cold, Blowing Hodir's Horn, Polishing the Helm, Spy Hunter (requires Honored), Thrusting Hodir's Spear (requires Honored), Feeding Arngrim (requires Revered).

Everfrost Chip: Scattered around eastern Storm Peaks are Everfrost Chip. They work similar to Netherwing Egg--they spawn in random locations and you can turn in as many as you find per day for reputation. Completing Remember Everfrost! gives 350 base reputation per turn-in. Requires Friendly to loot.

Relic of Ulduar: Relic of Ulduar can be repeatedly turned in for Hodir's Tribute, which grants 650 base reputation. They drop throughout Storm Peaks, Halls of Lightning, and Halls of Stone. They are also BoE, so can be purchased on the AH.

Commendation tokens: Sons of Hodir Commendation Badge can be purchased from Legacy Justice Quartermasters in Northrend for 6 Justice Points.

Rewards

Lillehoff sells shoulder enchants at Honored and Exalted which are BoA.

He also sells several mounts: Reins of the Ice Mammoth/Reins of the Ice Mammoth at Revered for and the three-seater mount Reins of the Grand Ice Mammoth/Reins of the Grand Ice Mammoth at Exalted for . These grant the achievements Ice Mammoth and Grand Ice Mammoth respectively.
